Does anyone else have a problem catching their corgi in the house? Everyone at work laughs at me - "Oh how can he run that fast with those little legs??" But seriously, I was always late getting back to work after lunch because I'd have to bodyslam him, trick him, or have a neighbor call him and snatch him up!! I'd be all sweaty, and he would think it was just a great game!! But now I leave his 4 ft lead on him while I eat my meal and while we play a bit. . .and when it's time for him to get back in his crate, I can just step on it and reel him in like a 25 lb fish!! And in the crate he goes. . .:)

YES!!! As soon as Mocha can hear the sound from the facuet, he immediately go into "prison break" mode, as soon as I've cornered him, he immediately drop to the ground and lay on his back and act "cute" as soon as my hand reach for his back, he immediately roll and take off full speed :)

I personally think that Corgis are very very smart, when Mocha was a pup, we had a friend who had a chihuahua came over and play tag with Mocha, they were going round and round the table, and then Mocha hide under the table and let the chihuahua ran by himself, then when the right moment comes, he tackle him and took him down! Man was I proud of him :)
i have to do sneak attacks for baths. . .lol, they ARE way too smart, but I ABSOLUTELY believe that they can read us like a book!!
That must have been absolutely cute! Way to go Mocha!
When Ruby was a little pup I made the mistake of playing 'get the Ruby', she'd run from me full speed while I pretended to try to catch her. Well now, she's still only 10 months old, she decides that she wants to play that game at the most inopportune times. Most of the time all I have to do is walk away, and she's 'hey wait, come back'. But sometimes even that's bait and switch, because she'll come but then when I reach for her she turns andruns again
We used to teach the "find me" game in our obedience class. Put your dog on a sit/stay and hide. The corgis delight in seeking you out. This greatly reinforces the "come" command. Typical for young corgis to run away. They get to continue their game as long as they wish. Make sure to have either a small treat or deliver lots of praise when they find you. I also reinforce the entrance to the crate with a small treat every time. When I am ready to leave for work all seven find their respective places in short order,
Bindi does this too! she'll bark to go out side or whine to go to bed then i bend down to get her and she hops and runs everywhere!!
We took allot of time to train Roxi to avoid this issue. (of course now I live with a Husky that plays the running game)

The moment we got her we did the calling game where we both had treats and called to her across the room for about 15 min a day.. giving a treat and mixing it up so she didn't just run back and forth.
Then we added this game to outside to train her "off leash" since its so dog friendly in our area. tied a 50 ft and a 30ft lead togeather and put that on her out on the field.. eventually she graduated to the regular sized leash.. and now she can almost go anywhere without a lead on.

For the crate issue, from day one we put her in for short periods of time saying "Bed time Roxi, Bed Time" and from there we lengthened it till whenever we say bed now she hops right into her crate lol. I think it also helped that it was right next to the couch so when we watched tv she laid in it next to us.
We are now working on leaving her alone in the house without having to be in the crate.

I would try the treats in the crate thing... and also try the calling games :) The long leash you applied is a great step, its teaching your little one that he can't run away when you call lol. The "Hand of God" approach as we used to call it.
Ein is free roaming, so I don't normally HAVE to catch him, but anytime we are playing "Get the Einsy bellies", he can easily outrun me.
Hedy usually isnt a problem, she loves walks, the yard, baths, kids, and FOOD. So if you have any of the above, you good to go. Wizard on the other hand can get hard headed.
Every one of them run like crazy. Problem is that I'm getting older and slower! Tank used to run UNDER furniture and I'd have to dig him out. Now Maddie runs under furniture. Luckily she's getting bigger. Moira is the rally racer in the family. Oh. My. Goodness! That dog can run. And she ran fast even as a porker! First day I brought her home she did the houdini out the front door and ran close to a half-mile with me in not-so-hot pursuit (remember I'm getting older). Thankfully, a young guy stopped his car and hollered asking did she bite. I yelled no and he caught her. (I think I'd have said she didn't bit even if she did--just so he'd catch her!) Of course, at 47 lbs full of Corgi, I now had to figure out how to get both of us home that half-mile. Luckily, she had on a bandana I could use as a pseudo-leash! Argghh! What a first day. Now I guard the doors with my life!
I can totally believe this...sounds like you came up with a smart solution, though!

We have a chase game, too, and it's all good fun. But when I want to pet/catch/settle down Junebug I stand up and say "come here". I usually don't grab her right away, though. I simply ask her to come and then sit, which she does very consistently. I use a totally different engery when I reach out to her then. If you're thinking "Catch", they'll think "RUN!". If you're thinking "Pet" or "reward", they'll happily accept that. Then once you've rewarded, calmly attach leash and move on. We've done a lot of work with basic commands (she'll do anything for a treat!), and I can even call her to me on the trail when I need to snap a leash on. One thing I never never do is chase or follow....that means you aren't in charge and your commands don't matter a lick--a big problem if you're in a dangerous situation!
You know I didn't believe in that whole "energy" thing until I got a dog. Now, I'm a believer!! There have actually been times that my boyfriend tells me "You better not go home with that attitude or else Blaze will be a real. . .um, we'll say "jerk." So on the drive home from work, I relax and usually arrive home to a good puppy who loves life!!
