Shelby seems to like the taste of books! We have a "mini-library" down stairs and Shelby's not a fan a reading, but eating! She likes to chew on books. I can always catch her in the act, too. I always pull her away and tell her "No, no, no!" I don't yell but I speak in a firm manner. She prefers the spines or corners of the books (oddly enough, they're all cook books). She's destroyed two book spines. So everyone, what do I do?

I can't offer any suggestions, but we've had the same problem lately. Ginny just goes for the corners of the hardback books. I think Ginny just has a taste for paper.... she's been into the toilet paper a lot lately, too...

Sorry I can't help you out. Good luck
Can you put a baby gate in front of the book shelves? When Lance was a puppy one of the cutest things I saw him do was grab the toilet paper in the bathroom and came running out of the bathroom with a strand of paper to follow.....just like in that toilet paper commercial! Sooooo cute! I wish I could have gotten a video of that, but I was on the phone at the time. Although after the first time it quickly was getting less cute each time. He did outgrow that part, although if he could get ahold of some toilet paper to eat....yummy...lol
They probably smell like food to her. Get some bitter apple spray and spritz it along the back of the spines.
I agree the books must spell of food. How about putting them up higher than she can reach. Our former Beagle thought the apple bitter was tasty so it never worked on him. Good Luck and happy cooking.
Chewing is part of being a pup. Some have a taste for wood, some like paper, others enjoy carpet. Most grow out of the intense need to chew. Until that time make sure she has appropriate things to chew, remove or do not allow access to the desired item and increase your supervision. I have yet to raise a pup without some "redesigned" furniture or items. This too shall pass.
