I was reading some old treads on the food switching. With the Canidae formula, I don't think it is agreeing with Harry. He poops like 4-5 times a day on this new stuff so I have been giving him bland chicken and rice the past two days (with only 2-3 poops a day) but I am going to ease him into the Evo Chicken and Rice.

My question is, can i mix the Evo with actual chicken and rice, or do I have to mix it with the Canidae? I hate to give him more of it because that is where his issue lies.

Any suggestions? I just don't want him to miss out on any of the essential nutrients over the next week or so during the switch!

You could add a couple of tablespoons of pumpkin to the dog food, or to the side for him to eat. Pumpkin is like a wonder drug for dogs. Have diarreha? Give them some pumpkin. Constipated? Give them some pumpkin. Trying to get them to lose weight? Give them pumpkin. It's the fiber in the pumpkin that does the trick.

Also, if you are feeding them a weigh management dog food, they will go to the bathroom a lot more, cause a lot of those foods have lots of fiber to help fill them up. That's why, I usually give pumpkin and/or canned green beans in addition to their food. Now, if I can only get my husband to quit giving them extra snacks. Duncan was weighing in at 46 pounds. He is a big corgi, but that is still WAY to much. Chloe is a corgi/chow mix and she was weighing in at 38 pounds. My husband is doing better, and I do know that Chloe has lost about 4 pounds; Duncan I haven't gotten on any scales yet.
Harry is still a puppy and at his last vet visit was like 11 lbs so i am guessing he is close to 13 ish now. So we are not going the weight management yet, but Canidae was what the breeder was feeding him so we just continued, but the new formula is not going so well. I bought some pumpkin so I will try that during the switch as well just in case. Thanks!
Charlie used to have mud butt all the time. We would go to the vet on a regular basis. My vet never even brought up the food as a possible problem. I always used to feed him Iams. I finally started reading up on food sensitivities and switched him to Natural Balance sweet potatoe and fish formula. (no grains) His stools are always nice and firm now.

I love your little Prince Harry. He is sooo cute. By the way, my Charlie is Prince Charles of Willow Street. (the big ears thing)

I hope Harry feels better soon.
We had problems with the new Canidae formula also. After 3 weeks of mushy poo, we decided that it be best to change brands. We e-mailed our breeder with some ideas we had and asked for her input. We all suggested Wellness, so we're trying out the Wellness Just for Puppy, mixing in the old Canidae with it, and slowly fazing that out till its 100% Wellness. We have been mixing pumpkin in also, but I think today we will try leaving it out to see how he does. The Wellness seems to be working, the last couple of days we only had a few soft poos. Good luck to you!
