Paw licking
......anybody else's Corgi have or had any obsessive paw licking to contend with? I love my "schnoodle-puppy" so very much - but if this keeps up ........arrrgghhhh :):):)Jodi started licking her paws almost obsessivly as the weather turned colder. She spends time outside during the day, but not a great deal. There is no salt on the ground (to de-thaw the snow as we haven't had any yet) - nothing has changed other than the weather that I can tell. There is nothing visibly wrong with her paws - so I"m stumped. Is this psychological in nature? H-E-L-P :):):)

Check with your vet to see if your "schoodle-puppy" could be allergic. Obsessive paw licking could be a possible sign of inhalant allergies or even a behavioral issue. Your vet would definitely be the best person to find out for sure. Good luck.

Thanks Corgi Mom. I remember as a child one of our Corgi's with this issue and my Mom putting socks on her to stop her from licking so much. But I think that Corgi was actually licking herself raw - thank goodness Jodi isn't there yet :)):) I will ask the vet though, thanks for the advice :)

My pup does this too! she used to do it a lot more when we first got her. Now she mostly does it when she's bored. I asked the vet about it and he said it was normal. I think they are just trying to clean themselves. Or maybe she's trying to warm up!

I read somewhere that it was connected with being bored. I think it was actually a corgi website when I researching them before we got Roxi.

Trunks and Courtney *Bridge 2001* both do/did this. Courtney was allergies. I believe it is the same for Trunks.
You can get an "anti itch" spray that may help, especially if she gets hotspots. Otherwise, you may take a trip to the vet. Courtney used to get shots for it. We stopped that after we started shaving her.

Shaving her? Just her paws or did she have skin allergies all over? I haven't seen any hotspots on her - I am wondering if she is bored. We've been busy and sstressed around the house lately etc. etc......blah, blah, blah.....she still gets TONNES of attention just not as much as SHE wants :):):)

We shaved Courtney entirely, head to toe. Cleared up 75% of her allergies.

Phelan does this a lot to, I just cut off all the hair in between the toes. That seems to help!
But phelan is an obsesive "licking"corgi anyway, he alway wants to clean everybodys ears and cuts (when we have one). He always lickes the rabbit until its soaking wet (quite funny though). He obsesivly cleans :-)

Mine has only recently started this behaviour of licking his paws too long. He starts out chewing his bone, gets bored and resorts to paw licking. I tell him to quit and he does so keep correcting. But I notice its when he's bored and I need to be on the computer and not paying attention to him FULLY or when he hasnt gotten as long a walk as he's used too. Try walking them longer and a tired corgi is a happy corgi :)

Ein and Tucker (my lab) are both obssessive paw lickers. Our vet said that it looked allergy related. We give them benadryl as needed and it seems to help alot. Unless they're licking themselves raw. Then we call the vet for a prescription for Temaril P.
It can also be psychological, though, so I would check with the vet and see what they think.

while if this does not help sorry Iam in a rush and did not fully look over your setuation, but if there are snow she has been in make sure to yipe there paws of after they come in because the snow can get caught in there
