How to make a corgi swallow her pills that won't cost me a finger...

Hi, everyone! Cam was spayed this week and we have to administer her pain pills and antibiotics. She won't eat the food if we mix it in, so we've been doing it by hand. Of course, this is not an easy task. We manage to get it done, but I was wondering if anyone has any tips. We tried to wrap it in food, no dice. It usually involves one person holding her, the other one opening her mouth, dropping it in the back of the throat, keeping her mouth closed, and massaging her throat to make sure she swallows it.

Is there an easier way?

My vet told me to put the pill in peanut butter and place it on there tongue :D My corgi loves it lol
I'm pretty good at getting Dax to swallow pills, but a couple weeks ago I tried to give him a chewable tablet. Wouldn't eat it. I wrapped it in cheese. He ate the cheese and left the pill. Put some peanut butter on it. He licked all the peanut butter off and left the pill. Wrapped it up in a little piece of bread. He nibbled all the bread off and left the pill. Finally I held him, stuck the tablet in his mouth (she'll need to be in your lap for this), and held his face, nose pointed almost straight up (be careful though, dont let her choke on it), and held him there so he couldn't spit it out, and he chewed it. Success! :) Hope it helps!
I think that Cam has super-doggy smell ability because we've wrapped the pills around beef and she still wouldn't touch it. We bought Pill Pockets, but she wouldn't even eat one of those, by itself. I tried diluting the pills, putting it in a dropper, but I was told by someone that she may not be getting the full dosage. I disagreed, but didn't want to have a fight. Has anyone tried to do this and if so, is there a chance that diluting the pills makes them weaker. I don't think so, but I welcome any thoughts on the matter.
Amanda-

We've been doing the same thing. I don't feel like such a bad Corgi-mommy for holding her, etc. Thanks for your thoughts.
Heh. Usually I can just hold him and stick it in the back of his mouth and hold his mouth closed and he'll swallow it, but it was so big I didn't want to choke him. So you said you tried holding her nose up - she still wouldn't chew it?
We have excellent luck hiding the pill in a bit of cream cheese.
I second the cream cheese! My obedience trainer suggested it as a yummy treat, and Caleb goes bonkers for it. I hid both a capsule for his coat and a doggy vitamin in a glob of cream cheese last night and away it went!
Can you crust them?

I always put pills in wet dog food. My little eats it so fast that he doesn't even notice it.
Been placing the pill as back in her mouth as I can, close her mouth and then blow on her snout... Seems to work pretty good. Can do it within 3 tries!

Her pills will be a few more days. Her sutures look good, it's been one week and she is not in pain...
With Grunt after 14 years we had run through every trick just about but this one still worked. Get two pieces of hot dog or kielbasa or sausage. I made the first piece of hot dog smaller than the second. Put the pill in the bigger of the pieces. Feed the pill-less piece first while letting your pup see the second piece in your hand. Talk excitedly, "You think that first piece was good? Wait until you get this second one." Grunt would inhale the first and strike that second piece like a barracuda and that pill was down. I would sometimes add a third piece of hot dog at the end just because I am nice that way. :)
I tried that one. Somehow Camber knows that the first treat is not genuine and I won't get that far. I think she is smelling the pill on my hand even though I am not giving her a treat with the pill.

She wouldn't even go for an empty pill pocket! Returned them to Petco.

I am comfortable with just putting the pill in her mouth now. Actually this morning, she was so good taking her pill, I sliced her small piece of eye roast as treat.
If we give her a pill before her meal, she won't eat. We are only giving her pills after din din or breakfast...
