Winnie's right hind leg problem
The other morning in the very cold snow, winnie let out a yelp and picked up her right hind leg. we checked it out, nothing seemed wrong, and she could run and play almost immediately afterwards. In the last two days this yelp hop and then fine thing has happened a few times while playing (mostly outside) but because the outside has been so cold we figure that was what it was. Then tonight, again in the snow, she let out an incredibly intense and sustained yelp/whine and picked up her right hind leg again. this time she cried for almost 30 seconds to a minute and her walk did not return to normal as quickly this time. Has anybody had this issue or does anyone have any suggestions? she's only 15 weeks old and we're thinking an expensive vet visit is in order.

Yes, please bring Winnie to the vet. It may be something as minor as a bruised tendon/muscle which can be eased with pain meds. When your vet does their hands-on exam they'll be feeling for possible broken bones, range of motion and to see if any joints might be out of socket. Winnie might also have a loose kneecap. We'll be hoping and praying that it's something minor. Good luck and please let us know how things go.

my husband stayed home today to take her in. we thing it is her hip join or there abouts. I'll know more after he goes to the vet.

winnie went to the vet and she is supposed to rest and take anti inflammatories. making a puppy rest won't be easy but we are hoping that that will be the problem. if after a week pain still exists we'll do xrays etc.
Thanks for the healing thoughts.... i just hate to see "my baby" in pain.

You are right, making a puppy rest is terribly difficult. We brought in our portable kennel fence inside so we could keep Fergie separated from the other dogs, but still able to see what was going on. We were only to make it through one week with this restriction, but I';m sure it made a difference. Fergie acts as if nothing happened. Good luck to you. I"m sure it will all end well!

well, its sunday night we got about 9 inches on Thursday and Friday (which is when she went to the vets) she's been pretty good but we got about 4 more inches tonight and man I have never seen a dog so happy about snow. i am letting her walk about in it and tunnle but no pouncing like she enjoys and i really am trying to not let her run. She seems to be doing better but we did have one randome yelping today. We have until Friday. Thanks for caring!
