If 115 people have registered Corgis with just "Maximus", then your registration will come back as Pembroke Welsh Corgi "Maximus #116". You can use your first or last name, like "Sam's Maximus", or if Max is from a good breeder you could include the kennel name in the registration. You can really make up anything you like, such as "Sam's Fabulous Optimus Maximus". Names are a lot of fun. : - )

Thanks Charlie. I love the Fabulous Optimus Maximus example. That's funny. I think we might just start writing down some ideas and see what we come up with, I might use the Optimus Maximus one in there somewhere lol.

I am doing the form too and I am very confused. I dont understand the name thing. Should we just put her first middle and last name? I dont know if I really need like a long name? Are the long names for showing? Or can I just put her regular name? Are the forms necessary to fill out and send in? If so, what do the forms do for the dog? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Worth sending in the papers. This will allow you to show in obedience, rally, agility, herding or any other AKC competition. You may not be interested now but who knows what may come down the road. If you dont do it timely and decide to later you will pay a much heftier fee.

I'm having issues picking out an AKC name too! I named my pup Rhett, so I'm not sure what to do about his unique name either!

I registered Einstein as Einstein Sayres although since we had him nuetered and he's not in any show ring or anything like that it was kinda pointless to do it.

We are 100% sure we are not gonna show Chloe. Shes a family dog. So does that mean I do not have to send in AKC forms?

If you're not planning to enter any AKC obedience, agility trials, herding etc, then you don't have to register your dog. Registering does help the AKC keep records of a breed's popularity and ranking even if you don't compete or put any titles on your dog. It's up to you.

I think it is fun to come up with the names. Lizzie is Q Lizzie Beth (for Queen Elizabeth) Fergie is FCF's Royal Ferguson (Sarah Ferguson Duchess of York) We started with naming them after the royal family...after all they are the Queen's dog! We broke that trend with Brodie he is FCF's Little Bonanza Brodie. FCF stands for Fox Crossing Farm. Little Bonanza is homage to the fact that he came from Cartwright Corgis...and Brodie just fit! If you are able to see the pedigree of the parents it is nice to include something from their names in your dog's name as well. If you aren't going to compete in AKC events and are not going to breed it certainly isn't necessary.

So we finally decided on an AKC name for Max. We decided on Draco's Alaskan Maximus. Draco is his Dad. It took a lot of discussion to come to this name. It's funny that such a simple thing could become so complicated. ha

When naming their dogs, most people combine the names of the bitch and the sire. Or, they'll go by a theme---like music, etc. They'll also put their kennel name up front, partly for advertising/lining, but also in case the name is a popular one. Just think of something that your dog reminds you of. Dally's registered name is Frontiers Honkytonkbadonkadonk. Frontier because that was the name of my parents kennel (I chose to not use the breeder's kennel), and Honkytonkbadonkadonk because my parents and I love that song and it reminded us of Dally and her "ba donk a donk" (aka "bunny butt"). It's cute, and unique, and very long for such a little dog, but I like it.
