Wilson is 5 months and we have had him since he was 10 weeks. He has always been stand-offish around strange dogs but loves our 3 year old Corgi and cats. I took him to the dog park for the first time last week and he wanted nothing to do with the other dogs there. He loves people and is not hesitant to approach people he is unfamiliar with(pretty much the opposite of my 3 year old Corgi, hesitant around people he doesn't know, but not other dogs).
Any suggestions would be helpful. My 3 year old Corgi very much enjoys the dog park and I would really like to continue to take them. We did not go over the winter until the new little guy's vaccinations were complete. Thoughts or ideas to help him warm up to others?

The first time I took Snickers to the dog park (my first time too) she shied away from the other dogs and latched onto a nice gentleman who petted her. A nice lady advised me to take her to a training class. I did not do a good job of socializing her, due to my ignorance and she got mange and had to be kept away from others when she was at a critical age. So now, at 4 years old she is uncertain around strangers of the people or furry type (though she is the boss at home) I am taking her on walks at the park where she can have carefully controlled contacts, and with social Dolly as her role model she is making progress. I give people treats to give her and I pet her and talk to her while they pet her. So I would suggest an obedience class for Wilson, he will be able to be around other pups in a controlled environment. You might want to consider leaving him on the leash at the dog park until he is more secure. For some reason a padded harness that fits tightly around her neck seems to make Snickers more confident, a turtleneck sweater might have the same effect? I haven't really done any scientific studies on the subject, just a feeling.
