I tried to do a search, but maybe it's my browser or the site but couldn't find anything...

Any who, my Pembroke Corgi Kit is a bit overweight. He's hovering around 37-38 pounds. I've read they should be around 30 pounds and I've seen one at that weight level at the dog park and I understand now what they mean by an hour glass figure.

I'm feeding Kit 1/3 a cup of Orijin for breakfast and dinner, so 2/3 a cup per day. With minimum amounts of treats, perhaps a couple of those Charlie Bear 3 calorie treats when I leave for work and when I lure him upstairs for the night.

I used to feed him 1/2 a cup twice a day and spoil him with treats, but have been on the above routine for about two weeks right now without ANY change in weight.

We also go to the dog park on a daily basis, spend about an hour there on the weekdays and about 3 hours on the weekends. He runs around and plays and seems to getting a bit faster... but no change in weight.

So what do I do know to get his weight down? What are the best ways to drop that extra 7-8 pounds?

I'm including some videos and pictures to show how he's looking now. He doesn't look fat, but he doesn't look skinny either...

Algy was 53 pounds when we put him on the kibble and pumpkin diet. He got fed 2 times a day, 2/3 cup of his diet kibble and half a cup of solid packed pumpkin. He was also on steroids which meant that he was ALWAYS hungry. He also had little diet treats - like rice cakes - flavored with chicken or lamb. We also got those through the vet. They are mostly air.

He got down to 30 - 32 pounds and stayed there till the end. Although, in his case, he did lose some muscle mass due to his illnesses.

I think Kit is a cutie. He doesn't look too big at all! Just cute!
Hi Marius. I have a corgi that is 27 pounds, but she's a bit longer than my other one. She was 35 pounds a few months ago. My vet put her on a special diet. Hills Prescription Diet-- the W/D formula. I put both of my dogs on it for ease of feeding. They lost 10 pounds on it. I feed them 1/2 a cup two times a day. It is easy on their stomach, no skin irritation, and it helps them lose weight. I add green been and baby carrots to their food once a day to help them feel less "hungry". It is prescription only and it does cost more. But its all worth it I think. =)
