I know i saw a couple posts about the designer corgi hybrids on here in the past but I'm curious about those that might own them.

I wonder how much of the corgi traits shine through in the puppies, which genes seem to be dominant in the breeding process and stuff like that. (Not that i plan to go breed hybrids or anything, I'm just curious.) I can understand the desire for the dogs though, if the short legs are dominant, could you imagine other breeds with corgi legs? A great dane, or dalmatian. Would be kind of neat, or terribly ugly.

So anyway its the 24th of December and I'm terribly bored, i ask all that see this to upload pictures of your corgi crosses, and if possible state how much corgi they have in em.

To start off i will upload four pictures of some four week old pups I'm looking into (they would be around 10 weeks now but i don't have any up to date photos yet) They should be exactly 50/50 pembroke welsh corgi (mother) and mini aussie (father.)

A good friend of mine has two Augies...both from the same litter, same parents.  One is bigger and favors an Aussie, the other is smaller and pure corgi.  Sooooo....just depends on the dog and how the genes come together.  Basically I find these "designer" dogs ridiculous.  You are paying a ton of money for a mutt....go to the shelter and adopt!!  You'll get the same effect--maybe not the looks you want, but you'll get a great dog.

Just for future reference, I'm not paying for a designer dog, I'm adopting the runt of the litter because no one wanted her. The puppies themselves were purely accidental.

Bryan-

I in NO way meant to offend you!  I did not mean for that to come off as rude if it did.  I have nothing against dogs from responsible breeders...I have two of my own...

To clarify, I just don't understand how some people can pay upwards of $1500 for a designer dog, that in truth, is a mutt.  I'm sorry if I angered you--I did not mean it in any way to be offensive.

No worries, i wasnt going to be paying that kind of money for a dog anyway, no matter what the breed is. That would just be insane. However as it stands now i wont be getting that pup anyway, the owner hasn't been returning my calls or the text message i left so i started looking again. And as luck would have it i found a nice old lady about 3 and a half hours away from that just had a litter born and should have the puppy ready about the middle of January give or take a week or two. Im now waiting on her to send me some updated pictures and her paypal info so i can place a deposit on a cute little tri color female.

Of course there is no guarantee that this will work out either but its the best chance i have had yet. Been terribly frustrating trying to find one of these pups in my area.

If the litter is just born, i.e. in the second half of December, they are in NO WAY ready to go at all in the month of January. They should be leaving only in the second half of February. It is a HUGE red flag if someone lets puppies go before 8 weeks!!!

Born on December 7th so they would be ready around the end of January, or the first week of February.

Sorry i used the phrase "just born" to mean recently, didn't mean they were born today or anything.

If I were to really want one, I'd get a designer dog, if I could find a breeder that took actual care of their dogs (health/temperament testing, etc), if I had a particular mix I was interested in, and if I wanted a puppy.. If you're going to buy from a breeder in my eyes, you're buying from a breeder-there are purebreds in rescues/shelters too, etc. I understand where your point of view is coming from, but I also don't see much of anything wrong with buying from someone who takes honest care of their dogs, doesn't breed to pump out puppies for money, etc. I'm crazy about Corgi-Shelties. Absolutely adore them. If I were to get one and couldn't find what I was looking for in a shelter or rescue, didn't have that click, I'd definitely be moving on to finding a breeder-but wouldn't buy from someone that didn't take care of their dogs in the way that I would want to take care of mine. Of course, I wouldn't be doing that until way down the line, and probably won't be getting a mixed breed at any point (Corgis just take the cake, even if they are mixed and adorable, there's nothing like a good ol' solid Corgi lol :P). A lot of people don't agree with this, but that's a-ok too. I guess I am just voicing this for anyone who has bought a designer breed... I could see how "paying a ton of money for a mutt" could come off as harsh and just wanted to maybe explain what it was to them, maybe give a bit of insight. If you're going to buy from a breeder, it should be your dream dog, etc. And what is a breeder that mixes compared to a puppy mill... Definitely can be tough to find someone who mixes and is responsible about it, but surely not impossible, either. :P Jennifer is 100% right though on something I'm sure we all can agree on-adoption is awesome :D

Here are some pictures of Prana, a corgi mix with Jack Russell terrier. I don't know the percentages because I adopted her as a rescue when she was about 3 years old, in 2005. She crossed the Rainbow Bridge in August 2012. I credit her with sparking my interest in Corgis.

After looking at a number of shelters and rescues, and checking out breeders of all levels, we decided to go with a "backyard" breeder. We were lucky and found someone nearby who is raising the pups just the way I would want mine to be raised, indoors with the family, with lots of human contact, feeding them quality food, keeping us updated with pictures, etc. We met the family, the pups, and both parents and were impressed with the care these folks are taking with their dogs. They are not breeding show dogs, but I don't care about that. I think there are backyard or hobby breeders who are doing a good thing and fulfilling a need for good pet-quality puppies that don't come from a puppy mill.

Bryan, your little pup looks a lot like a Corgi with those short chubby little legs. I wouldn't worry too much about the "runt" thing...many times they will catch up in their development, and so much can be done with the bond that will form between you and the dog. I believe these gentle creatures have much to teach us, if we are open to it. Best wishes to you.

Prana is cute, corgis and corgi crosses must have invented the term "puppy dog eyes." Every cross i have seen has that face. I just think its interesting how you can take two different looking dogs and their puppies can end up looking like the father, the mother or a crazy hybrid of the two. Kind of neat.

I agree on the hobby breeders, i have talked to a few that are very nice, and very willing to work with the buyer to get a pet. Show dogs are fine if you want a show a dog but not every one wants a show dog, i tend to go for dogs that look different and every true show quality breeder i have seen, they always have pups that look exactly like the standard. I am of course fine with a shelter or rescue too, but corgis are rare where i live and most of the rescues never have anything.

As for the pup i plan to get, I kind of like that she is the smaller one of the litter, i will refer to her as my mini augie. Once I'm able to get an updated picture i will sure to post it, the owner kind of made it sound like they might decide to keep her so I'm not even sure if they want to let her go, but since its Christmas i have to wait and see.

Sorry, just not a fan of hybrids.  I'd rather have a well bred purebreed from a quality breeder.  You just don't know the blood lines of a hybrid, or what traits will develop.

This is Leo(Leonidas)!

He's a 1/2 Border Collie x 1/2 Corgi

I got her from some lady living in a farm land area with several dogs. She had a nice large open space with a corgi (He was absolutely adorable and handsome), a border collie, a lab, and I'm not sure what the last dog was haha. I got Leo for $200. He was completely accidental and he was the last one to be bought.

Oh, and first two pictures are when he was about 8 months old? Which isn't too long ago he looks the same now. Last picture was when he was about 8 weeks old.
