Please excuse my ignorance -- I haven't had a puppy in 16 years or a dog in 11 years, so I don't know if I'm flipping out with good cause or if I'm just being an overanxious, overprotective mother.

Doris just turned 8 weeks old. We also celebrated the one-week anniversary of bringing her home. So far, everything's been fabulous. Then last night I was petting the little darling, and I discovered a bump. She has a bump! It feels like a little cyst just to the left of her left shoulder blade -- smaller than a marble; bigger than BB.

Doris will see my vet on Monday (only two more days to wait!), but I'm flippin' out. Is this normal? Should I be worried? Am I just worrying because I can? Does anyone else have lumpy puppies? Is it just me and Doris? If I hold my breath, will my head explode?

[To be fair, I should tell you that Doris keeps rolling her eyes at me when I ask her if she has canker. Then she yips at her toy and chases it across the dining room floor, so I think Doris feels all right. Even if I'm having a heart attack.]

Thx,
Bay

Hi! I think you can relax a bit, we experenced that with our puppy when he was 14 weeks, I took him to the vet and they said it was from where he had gotten his shot. It did disappear too. I agree with you I was so anxious until I took him to have the vet take a look. Better to have it checked than not. Let us know what the vet has to say. Better to worry than not is my motto!! Good Luck.
Is she chipped? Might it be near the chip site?
She's not chipped. I hadn't thought of that! Or I would've worried about it, LOL! I'm hoping that Natalie is right and it's where Doris' first shots were. Fingers crossed! Or I hope it's just a li'l extra personality. But I'm definitely asking the vet when we get there Monday. LOL! I'm more concerned about the bump than I am about the fact that I'll never be ready for Christmas at this rate!

Thanks to everyone for helping to calm my rattled nerves!
I heard that rabies shots can cause benign tumors at the site sometimes?
so sweet, LO has something like that, I think it's where his chip is.
Both our dogs have gotten that after shots before. I understand your worry, but it should be fine. Pandora developes cysts on her. We just watch them to make sure they don't get too big. She had one removed from her face when she was just over a year old. We had lots of anxiety then because they thought it may be cancer. It wasn't. Just ask your vet on Monday. I bet you it will be fine.
