Bad vaccine reactions
Does anyones corgi fall into the 1% of dogs who have bad vaccine reactions? I took Puck to the vet today and he did such a good job. Of course before the vet gave the vaccines, she warned me of the 1% but I was like whatever.. doesn't happen often. Well lo and behold, we stop somewhere and he starts to puke and his face and lips are all swollen.
I brought him back to the vet and he had to be left there to be watched and shoot him up with benadryl. Now Puck is going to be red flagged for being sensitive to vaccines. And all the vaccines he got today, the vet said he won't be able to be boostered for because it would be too great a risk for him to have an even worse reaction. Ugh... so the only one he'll get boostered for is Parvo/distemper because Parvovirus is such a problem in Duluth but that was the shot he had a bad reaction to. So now I'm all nervous for next time. :(
He is okay now though. He's all sleepy from the benadryl so he's taking a nap.

I'm so sorry to hear, poor Puck :( At least now you know that he'll have reaction to the vaccine.

Hi, yes Rocky had a reaction to his Rabies/distemper/whatever vaccination in Feb. He ran a fever, had bloody, runny poop and was partially dehydrated by the time we got him to Iowa State. They ran a bunch of tests and decided it was a reaction to his vaccinations. He now will have to have his antigen levels tested and if they are ok, no vaccine. If they are low, he can have 1/4 of the vaccine and only one vaccine at a time. If he needs more than one, they must be 4 months apart. He ended up with a 4 day stay at ISU vet clinic before he was ready to come home. Oh fun!!

Algy had a reaction to his first bout of vaccinations. He was still a puppy and kept vomiting after I brought him home from the vet. I had to take him to the ER where they hooked him up to an IV and gave him a shot of some kind of steroid.
It only happened that one time though. He's now almost 11 and hasn't had that problem since!
