Hi everyone, I moved Tommy into my new apartment yesterday (in a new state) and boy did we have a rough first night and morning.  Last night he wouldn't sleep in his crate (as he has always done) and wouldn't settle down at all (standing next to the bed barking in my face throughout the night).  This morning when I left I tried him in and out of the crate (he always has been fine home alone but in the new place I worried a bit) and in both scenarios he barked incessantly at the top of his corgi lungs.  I just sat in my car in the parking lot at my wit's end, listening to him bark and knowing the neighbors probably wanted to shoot us both at 7:30am.  I imagine them to be leaving angry notes on my door as I type this.  Anyone else experience this with a move? Any tips to ease his transition?? Thank you!

Hi Marcie, I am also on the bottom floor so the noise definitely comes from above.  I thought bottom floor would be best so that all Tom's zooming around wouldn't bother someone below! I will try the tv and a fan tomorrow.  Thanks so much for your help! :)

Try stuffing a kong with some kibble, some carrot pieces and pureed pumkin and sticking it in the freezer.  When you leave just toss it in the crate.  Also, there is a CD for dog calming music that might help.  You'd have to play it continuously to drown out the other new sounds that are disturbing your pup, but it might help.  Maybe try it on the weekend where you can go back sooner than a full day, to get him used to the idea that you will definitely be returning and haven't left him in some strange place.  It will probably just take a little bit of time for him to get used to the new place and new sounds.  Good luck!

thanks, Susan!! I will give it a try! I greatly appreciate the suggestions! :)
