I've heard that Brits tell a joke about the corgis and the Royal Family, something like:
"...inbred, overfed, pampered, spoiled, ill-mannered... and the dogs aren't much better." -- apologies to the corgis and the rest of the royal family. :)
Funny thing in the UK corgi's are few and far between. I have dear friends in Wales, they laugh because I am the only one they know with a corgi. Here I live in the US. LOL
That's interesting- the last time we took our girls out to a street festival, they were pounced upon by a lady from England who lives and works here now (Missouri).
She fawned on and loved on our girls for over 20 minutes talking about how she missed her family's corgis back in England and how they were the "best dogs in the world"
I suppose I took from that the impression that folks in the UK really did have corgis.
I'm Scottish and an Anglophile. My husband and son HATE anything with a British accent (they don't know both our corgis speak with one) They absolutely LOVED the joke. I found it amusing. I will tell it at Tea on Saturday. Thanks!
Somebody once showed me a photocopied collection of British tabloid gossip about the royal corgis. It included an account of Dottie's messy and fatal attack on Pharos in Buckingham Palace, and one of the footmen getting in trouble for feeding the corgis some gin on Christmas (Al would get on well with that guy).
Gwynnie insists she IS a royal corgi, kidnapped from Buckingham as a puppy, and expects to be treated accordingly. gossip link
