hey everyone!!!! i was wondering, what tricks all of your furr babys know? how did you teach them tricks? what rewards do you use?

i taught my little kirby a lot of tricks. mostly using tug of war as a reward instead of treats. here is a

list of his known commands:

sit
stay
kennel up (go to his kennel)

roll over
do the wave (like at a sports arena)
spin
stop, drop, and roll (had to teach him fire safety)
goodbye (sit, and wave one paw to signify saying goodbye)
bang (play dead)
zombies (wake up from playing dead after a few random words until i say zombies)
over (jump over something)
lets go (walk on loose leash)
down (lie down)
go upstairs
go downstairs
go potty
go outside
speak
touch (touch an object that i am holding or pointing at)
high ten
low five
give me a kiss
daps (like high five but he placed both paws on my fist)
get your rope
get your frisbee
leave it (had him perfectly trained to leave it at 4 months)
come here

eyes (look at me)

fetch

load em' up (get into the car)

(attached is a video of him doing stop, drop, and roll. please excuse the messy background, my siblings are think they were raised in a barn)

Ella knows the usual stuff - sit, stop, food. She knows lots of human words, but no actual tricks.  The one thing she does do though is "Put Eric to bed".  Once this is said she will quiet bark and herd her human brother to bed. Then jump on his bed for a rub on the head.  She goes outside for a walk once he's in bed, so this is a very important ritual for her.

She also recently learned how to spell backwards. She gets excited when we say "food", so Eric started saying "doof". Well it didn't take her long to catch on to that one.

Wow,

I was reading the lists thinking, wow my dog doesnt know many tricks. But as I sit back and think about it, he does know quite a few. I use hand cues as well as verbal words.

Sit (back of palmed hand)

Stay (palm of hand)

Come (usually point at him and drag my hand to my feet, he will walk towards me and sit in front of me)

Drop It (hold my hand out, usually will drop a bone, toy, whatever he has in his mouth)

Leave It (just verbal, means don't even touch the item that just fell to the floor, or is laying there)

To your House (usually pointing to his kennel, goes into his kennel)

To your bed (again pointing, goes to his bed to lay down)

Go get your toy, ball, teddy bear, etc. (point and he goes to get it)  Used when starting to play fetch

Go get it (usually when item is already thrown)

Bring it Back (pretty obvious)

OK- (release word for anything)

Pssst (my  sound for "no")   (similar to Ceaser Milan, kinda)

Be Nice or Be nice to the ___  (means be gentle with the puppy, kitty, baby, etc.)  He absolutely loves kids.

Hush (verbal, means no barkin in the house)

Stop (verbal, means stop doing what he is doing such as growling or being a grouch, he gets cranky sometimes)

Its HOT (verbal, means something is hot that just fell on the floor and they will burn there mouths when eating it.

I never had to do much training for him on the leash. If I stop walking and tug back gently he knows to stop and stand. If we are walking and there is a car coming down the street, I go over to the grass and have Ein sit and stay. I take cars driving down the street very seriously since there are no sidewalks in my neighborhood. And people are pretty dumb, going 30-50 in a 20 mph zone. When its clear, I say ok.

If he is caught by distraction such as a barking dog behind a fence, I tug on his leash when he looks over to the dog in question and we keep walking. Again similar to Ceaser.

Watching Dog Wisperer has helped alot in training Ein.
