Corgi and Water

Hmm, are corgi's water dogs? I've heard mixed things from the people that I know. Some will be like a cat and scratch the living crap out of you and the other just tolerate it.

I put Freya in the tub with me on a whim. I figured at the very least I should get her used to the water. I held her so she wouldn't freak out and she just immediately started to doggy paddle. Sadly, she did far better than our Weim, which is supposed to be a water dog(?) too. I sat her in my lap for a second and she was fine, she wasn't freaking out at all.

I was impressed. Am I lucky or is this normal?

They are not the best swimmers so be careful. My little one isn't a big fan of swimming, but he likes to wade around in water.

Lucy loves water. She is not the best swimmer, but enjoys taking a dip in the lake. I'm thinking about getting her a doogy life jacket.

My Lucy LOVES to swim. Sometimes she will even fetch from the water. Her favorite thing is to play with the labs at the lake. If you are okay with her being a swimmer (she will always jet for a dip in any water) then keep her around it and let her know what is okay and what is not okay. Lucy knows that it is okay for her to swim in the lake but she makes us angry when she runs through the marshy swamp. Some corgi owners have bought their dogs life vests if you are not comfortable with her swimming out far. If you like, I have videos and photos on my page of Lu doing her favorite thing.

Junebug LOVES water, and is a very good swimmer. Probably couldn't outswim a lab, but she will fetch in a lake or stream for a good long while, until she gets tired! I have a couple of pics on my page :) It's different for each dog, and probably is highly influenced by how they are introduced to it. I should note that June doesn't really like baths!

That's weird. Lucy loves to swim but hates baths too... I wonder if there is a correlation...

Cowboy my tri color loves to play in the bath tub with a little water in it and loves to take baths , won't go further than the edge at the dog park pools and is very cautious aroung swimming pools. :)

Our Rose loves to swim. She jumps in after her toys. Teegan only likes to spash or be held in the water.

You're very lucky :)

Vienna loves the water, she will jump into any water without hesitation on a hot day.

Mocha on the other hand HATES the water, he would hop over any puddle on a rainy and rather not get wet. It took us half an hour to "convince" him in taking the picture.
