We just bought Camber a new bed at Costco and she won't go in. We've tried placing her in the bed and petting her, but she seems nervous and just takes off once we are done. I think now she determined not to use it. She'll lay down right next to it.

She is not big into dog treats, so using treats for anything is difficult with her.

Any suggestions?

That's funny LO just got a new costco bed too, I found that placing him in the bed with a kong toy worked. I also sat beside him and when he tried to get out gently corrected him. It took him about 20 mins to get comfortable then he realized that I wasn't letting him out he had a little nap.
I'll put her Kong on the bed. I think she'll just grab it off the bed go somehwere else with it. We put a teaspoon of peanut butter in it and freeze it. She goes right for it as soon as we leave for work.

Who knows, maybe I'll come home from work and she'll be sleeping on it! Wishful thinking...
I def need some less messy ideas for the kong.
Peanut butter works really good and when frozen makes it more involved to get out. We tried the Kong dog treats, but she does not eat any treats, so she did not even bother looking at Kong.

Camber only like smelly foods. Roquefort cheese is one of her fav's! Just the smallest morsel is enough to get her licking her chops for 30 seconds. She likes Feta as well. She’s not a beggar, but will hang out when cheese is being served.
Kong make stuff that looks likes it's in a cheese wiz can, it's called Kong Stuff (original huh?). We put it in the Kong and freeze it overnight and give it to him before we go out. By the time it thaws, it's halfway gone. If you don't want to buy that then get Fat Free peanut butter - basically the same stuff. Just watch the ingredients
Does Camber have a special blanket or towel? If so, put it on the bed. It will begin to transfer scent to the bed. You can put other things in a Kong, too: baby carrots, pieces of apple, etc.
She does not have a special towel or blanket. I think any food I put on there, she'll just eat it from the bed (standing outside of it) and not get in. I am hoping she'll warm up to the bed, but if she wants to sleep on the floor, that is her decision... She has a little wool-like pad she sleeps on, the kind that goes in a kennel. We bought her a kennel when we first got her as she was locked in one her whole life. She had no intention of going back in one, so I returned it, but kept the pad that I purchased seperately figuring she'll need something to lay on. She likes the pad, so we thought the bed would be a step up for her.

I like the apple idea, I don't think she likes carrots by themselves. We do mix some in with her food. I am not a big carrot fan, but do cook with them a lot. I save the cooked ones to mix in her food. We have some baby carrots, will see if she'll eat one as a treat tonight.
If she has a favorite training treat, i.e. small pieces of hot dog, etc., you can use it to train "on your bed." 1. Have her come to you. (treat) 2. Have her come and put paws on the bed. (treat) 3. Have her come and put ALL FOUR paws on the bed. (treat) 4. Have her come and put all four paws and lie down on the bed. (treat)

By extending what is required, you end up teaching her the "whole" command of "on your bed." By doing that you're associating good things (treats) with the bed and in the meantime she's putting her own scent all over the bed!
I could try that with several pieces of blue cheese I suppose... Her scent is already on the bed from her shedding and our failed attempts to get her on it. She is a very shy and stuborn. She's almost 7 and we've only had her 8 months. She had no training really at all outside of being housebroken and she's been perfect with that. Not one accident!
maybe you can put the wool like pad on her bed, since she already likes that it may entice her to go lay on it.
Was thinking about that yesterday.
I think Costco beds have cedar in them. Maybe Camber just doesn't like the smell.
