I have a 2.5 yr old male tri color who has developed white patches in his dark fur sometime in the last 6 months or so. He's due for his annual physical pretty soon so I plan on asking the vet if this is normal or a sign of something wrong, but I'm worried and don't want to wait until then. Can anyone here tell me if this is a normal color change or something I should be worried about? Thanks!

If they are "actual" white patches I would find that odd. If you look under his coat you will see that close to the skin is generally much lighter. I have seen shaved tri color dogs that look grey. Tris and sables seem to change a bit each year. They do not actually ever add white to their pattern. White stays the same.
Hi all,

Thanks for the welcomes! Sam, thanks for your reply. I meant to take a photo of the white spots so I could post that alongside an earlier photo before they came but I forgot. Will do that tomorrow. They're definitely white patches of fur in the dark fur on his side. One of my sisters even commented on them, that's how noticeable they are. Maybe with the photos you will have a better idea of what it might be. Will check in tomorrow with the pics.
