Hi, My dog just turned 1-years old today! She was so destructive and unmanageable until 2 months ago when her behavior suddenly improved by 80%. We got this Corgi for my husband, as I wasn't ready to get another Maltese yet (sadly, the Maltese I had for 15.5 years passed away from lymphoma 3 years ago). At heart, I am still a Maltese person, and I have my heart set out on getting another Maltese, and we are considering getting one soon. I'm guessing my Corgi will act in one of two ways: 1) she'll be happy to have another dog to keep her company and amused during the day when we're away, but 2) she'll be very jealous and act out. Does anyone out there have any experiences with having both a Corgi and a Maltese? (Malteses are superb companion toy dogs and they simply LOVE being with their humans. They generally love their owners but don't care much for other dogs. Despite their toy size, they are happy and playful into old age.) They seem to have completely opposite personalities, and I'm hoping they will get along!

I would definitely wait a little longer before getting a second dog. What will likely happen if you bring another puppy into the house is that your corgi will regress back to being unmanageable. I would wait another 4 to 6 months until she is absolutely reliable for a while before considering a 2nd dog.
Her personality will determine how she is going to respond to a companion. Franklin's "big" sister was a 5 pound chihuahua. He loved/loves her and respects her and they get along great. She mostly wants to snuggle on your lap but they do play and Franklin loves her. If your corgi is a really dominant or possessive corgi she may not respond well. How does she generally do around other dogs?
Hi we have just bought a cardigan corgi pup 4 months old and we already had a 2.5 year old Maltese who is just a little madam and rules the house, after bringing miss bonnie, the corgi home and the pecking order was sorted out which took about a week they are the best of friends, my Maltese Hollie was best friends with my miniature Shetland sheep dog Mia who passed away 16 months ago, so we were a bit worried also, but Hollie is so happy now and doesn't mope around the house anymore, because she has a friend to play with. She is still top dog and let's the pup know that every now and then.
I think with any pup though you have to watch them both as the pup can be annoying wanting to pester and play all the time.
Good luck from Australia.
