Redford went under a car in the back yard that is being restored & is leaking a little oil.  He's got grease or oil on his ears and head.  He hates having his head washed.  Any suggestions on how to get it off?

gotta wash his head. If he is bad get a muzzle or wrap a leash or gauze around his muzzle to keep him from biting. Use dish soap to cut the oil/grease. Make sure to cover his eyes. Dawn is what we use on animals in oil spills, works great.

Hi Bev and David, use vegetable oil / margarine, rub it in his coat and blob withpaper towel. When you get most of the oil off, use baking soda to soak up the residue, rinse. Put half a cup of oat meal in your coffee grinder, use the oat meal powder + water and give Redford a bath. That should do it.

Thanks-it is mostly that he doesn't like water on his head-so getting him soaped up and rinsed is a challenge.  I may try it late at night when he's sleepy so he won't fuss as much (fingers crossed).  Sam's suggestion may be a little easier than water-I can do it in stages and he can move around between stages.  Maybe I'll try one method on each ear and see which works best.

if it's not terribly bad, I'd get some Dawn on a washcloth, just a bit...work it in then use another cloth to rinse it off, my dog hates to have her head washed also...but I'll use a damp cloth to clean her off once in a while when she gets hot, she loves it.
