Happy Easter, everyone!  I hope the Easter Bunny brought lots of goodies for you, your families and your furry friends!  Easter is lots of fun, especially when you have young children, but I'd like to post this friendly reminder that candy and decorations can be a danger to our pets.

1. Be sure to keep any and all chocolate stored up and safely away from your pets.  Chocolate is often fatal to dogs and you should carefully watch your children while they are eating it.  Make sure to pick up any candy that happens to fall while opening plastic eggs or bags of sweets!

2. Pick up any Easter grass before your pets have a chance to ingest it.  It has the possibility of creating a blockage or causing other intestinal problems.

3. Candy often contains xylitol, which is toxic to dogs (and ferrets.)  Be sure to keep all types of candy safely stored away from pets.

4. Keep flowers or potted plants safely away from pets.  Popular spring flowers, like daffodils and lilies, are toxic to pets (especially cats) when ingested.

5. Be sure to cut a hole in all candy bags that are discarded into the trash!  Food bags are very dangerous to our pets, as they can get their heads stuck and suffocate.

If you suspect your pet has eaten something that could be toxic, be sure to call your veterinarian or emergency veterinary clinic as soon as possible and follow their instructions.

I hope that you and your loved ones enjoy a safe and happy Easter holiday!
