Have you ever not been able to find your corgi for a few minutes? It happened to me yesterday. It was doggie dinnertime and I started calling for Sidney. I quickly located Bruce and Chester but no Sid. That's weird, I thought. Sid's always first in line when it comes to food! I asked my son "have you seen Sidney", but he hadn't either. We started checking in the house and I began to get worried. Checked in the back yard, raising my voice to call for him with that telltale catch in my voice that betrays my crumbling hope. Tears starting to well up as I begin interrogating other family members; "Are you sure you closed the gate?" "Did he maybe get out the front door?". Argh, it was horrible. As it turns out, he managed to close an upstairs bedroom door behind him. My son found him and you can imagine my immense relief and I hugged him so tight! I'm sure Sid was wondering what the heck was going on and why did we disturb his peaceful nap?

haha we were moving stuff into my boyfriends new house and i lost dragster twice.
1. He was hiding under a pile of moving boxes having a good time.
2. I guess i had accidently shut him in the closet. lol i opened it and he was still all smiles and happy. Like hey mom welcome back!
I had a horrible experience misplacing my corgi. I had put my corgi securely in her crate before heading off to work. I was at work about 3 hours when I get a call. It was my mom. "We've lost the dog!"
Of course I hightail it home IMMEDIATELY and we begin the search. Not in any of the rooms, not in the backyard, not in the front yard, not under the bed, not on the bed. I was completely beside myself. I started searching the neighborhood, came back home, went back out to check vets, called my second job to tell them I wasn't coming in because how much I'd paid for my dog was more than they'd ever paid me, all checks put together. Then I checked AGAIN.
About 4 hours later my family gathered in the living room, retracing our steps, going over the possibilities, again. That's when we noticed our black cat circling around the recliner. And again.. And again. My mom was like... No way.
She lifted the recliner a very little bit and I could see my Didi's nose poking out underneath. She'd gone under the chair when the footrest was up and when it was snapped back down it had pinned her neck to the ground so she couldn't get herself free, squrim, or bark. It took a few minutes to lift the chair in such a way that it wouldn't injure her further. There was much crying and hugging. Didi was unhurt, but she REALLY needed to pee (she was still a puppy then!) and she was very confused about why the recliner had bit her. She avoided it for a really long time.
My manager at work was actually very sympathetic, his mom's papillion was killed when it got stuck in a recliner. VERY SCARY!
Oh my gosh Sarah, what a terrifying thing! I'm so glad Didi was OK (I had to laugh a little at the part "she was very confused about why the recliner had bit her"). I think we should all keep in mind to be careful about the recliners in our house. When the footrest is up, underneath does look like a nice cozy den.
It does, and I never thought about it because my cats can get in there, but it's raised enough that they can get out easily if they get closed up in there. Whew, the worst hazards are the ones we never think of.
Recliner/rocker safety:
I've a phobia about pets getting crushed by the rocking recliner. A wooden block 4-5" high lives under it to keep it from crunching down upon anybody unsuspecting.
That's a good idea!
Sam, I'm so glad I'm not the only one who has done something like that. In our house, you have to go through the "utility room" to get to the backyard. We only open the door to the utility room to let them outside, use the dryer, or get something from the freezer. Each of our three has been left out in the utility room at least once because I didn't realize that they never followed me back in.

Colleen's "job" is to alert me when I've left someone out there. She'll bark and whine until I let Ein or Tucker back in.
I have. We took both our corgis for a walk and realized about twenty minutes after we got back that we hadn't seen Sparky since we had gotten home. We thought maybe he slipped back outside, not quiet finished with his walk, but after a 40 minute walk around the neighborhood and a floor to ceiling search of the house we were all panicked! He always comes when you call so we thought someone had taken him out of our backyard! I was on the computer making flyers when I heard him whimpering. I walked into the room where we kept the cat food (we have it cracked open just enough for the cats to go in and out of - the dogs are not allowed in there) and Sparky had shut himself in the closet! He hadn't responded to us calling because he knew he was in trouble! So cute! He was crying because he could hear me crying and he always cries with me! Got to love our crazy pets!
Too funny. I share the guilt in misplacing my corgi all the time. My female follows me in to the laundry/pantry room without making a peep. If I just go in there to grab something real quick, she often sneeks in behine me. I then turn the light off and close the door. Short-bred never barks or lets you know she is there in the dark, so on occassion (when I am busy doing things around the house and don't notice) she has been left in there for hours. :(
Gwynnie escaped outside once at night before I fenced the yard. She would neither answer nor return. Amid growing panic, a lightbulb clicked in my brain! Dashing into the basement and leaving the door wide open, I turned on the shop-vacuum. Within 18.32 sec, she had her teeth sunk into the vacuum nozzle.

Returning late on hikes, I commonly overlook them -- literally -- looking about in growing alarm for my missing dog, who is silently at my heel as usual.
I can't even count how many times that's happened to me. I was fishing the other day at the state park and went OMIGOSH!? WHERE'S DIDI? HAS ANYONE SEEN HER? I leaned back to jump up and got a sharp nip and heard a squeal. She was sitting right behind me. :p
That is hilarious John!
