Found a pet? There's an app for that.
One of my Corgis has the Home Again chip (the other has a different chip). I pay an annual fee to take advantage of their pet-finder services if Jack ever gets lost. As part of the package, I get e-mail alerts if a chipped pet is lost in my neighborhood.
Today I got an e-mail letting me know there is a new iPhone app for lost pets. It's free. I downloaded it and it seems pretty good. You will get iPhone alerts if a pet with the Home Again chip goes missing in your area (you can choose to get alerts from a 5, 10, or 25 mile radius).
You can go on an interactive map and view all pets reported missing and not yet found in your area. You can also choose to see a list of pets without the map. The app gives info about the pet such as name, breed, markings, sex, and photo if available. This would be handy if you found an animal and wanted to check to see if it's in the database.
So far you can't report your own pet missing through the app, and I don't know if that will ever be an option.
You do not need to be a member of Home Again to download the app; anyone who wants to help be on the lookout for lost pets can download it for free.
If you search the App Store by "Home Again" or by "Pet Rescuers" you will find the app. It has a logo featuring Snoopy from The Peanuts cartoons.
I thought some members might be interested. Keep in mind, again it is not to report all missing pets, only those chipped by the Home Again service.
