Hey everyone! I'm new to this whole discussion thing but any suggestions would be really helpful! Last night we had some friends over and someone was playing with my 3 year old corgi Chevy. Well as many of you know corgi's love to play and mine wont stop until we make him. Anyway when he was playing he jumped to catch the toy and came down kinda hard on his hip. Now in the morning he is walking with a hunch in the middle of his back. We are going to wait until tomorrow to see how he's doing and then make a vet appointment (it's Sunday today) but on other discussions I've read about a nerve that can get pinched but it doesn't show up on x-ray. So i guess what I'm asking is if anyone has any suggestions of what had happened and how can i explain it to me vet?! Thanks

I have no suggestion except to keep him as quiet as possible. I wouldn't wait until tomorrow to see how he is doing, I would take him ASAP. If it isn't feasible to get him to a vet now, put him in a crate or pen and mimimize his movements. I'm not a doctor or anything, but a hunch in the middle of the back can't be good. Keeping him as quiet as possible would help prevent any more damage done to his back. I would be afraid of too much activity until you get him to a vet could cause him to become paralyzed.

I hope it's the lesser of two evils and his has dislocated his hip. How is he acting?
We will been doing that today. keep him in his kennel and i put a heating pad in there on a low setting to see if that will help his muscles. we live in a really small town and EVERYTHING is closed on Sundays so we have to wait until tomorrow. thank you for your suggestion and concern!
D. Campbells advise is on. You should also rotate heat w/cold. More then likely he is fine but sore. Don't leave him sit too long..you do need to walk him out alittle. Atleast hes 3 yrs old and not 3 months old. Good luck and let us know.
Whether a vet recommended it or not doesn't mean it isn't suggested. Many injuries involving animals or humans when hurting a joint indicates certain therapies. Again..she states he jumped and fell and hit kinda hard..no one knows how he hit..how high he fell nor on what kind of surface he fall on. Joints can stiffen and become swollen and ligaments tightening. Sport therapy is to keep the ligaments toned and decrease swelling and mobility. My one male last week just injured his front leg..wouldn't put any weight on it. Most of a dogs weight is carried in the front end. He wouldn't put toe weight but would swing the leg back and forth which suggested no shoulder injury and more foot injury. He would stiffen and not put weight on it till you walked him out. Used cold therapy w/a mild pain and anti inflammatory. Hand walked but carried up and down stairs..w/in 24 hrs he was 90% better. I also massage the area as well. So yes restricted activity but not to the point of being immobile.
A roached back could also be from a rearend injury to hold that leg off the ground. She stated he landed on his hip which doesn't mean he couldn't of hurt his back. Either way, acute injury. She also stated he was on a heating pad...that increases blood flow, increase swelling and stiffness. Not recommended. Technically there isn't enough information in this article to even properly advise completely. A clinic is only as good as the people that are in it. You can walk into a practice of several of the same type of doctors and one of them is more advanced in their studies then the other. Anyways..lets hope he is better and theres improvement w/o progressive treatment.
Here is a good article on when to use ice or heat therapy and what is an acute injury or an chronic injury.

the heat pad seemed to help a little. i'm still restricting his movements. He fell on wood laminate. i didn't see him fall it was my husbands friend that was playing with him. i am making a vet appointment cause i don't want an injury to go undiagnosed. thank you for all of the advice!
Good luck at the vets and lets just hope its alot of bruising and sore muscle. Keep us updated.
went to the vet today, slipped disc. muscle relaxers and steroids! fun stuff. thanks for all the advice
We hope everything turns out okay at the vets. It's a very hard thing when our little ones are hurt and can't communicate to us where they are hurting. My prayers are with you and Chevy. When everything has settled down and you get the chance, I hope you'll let us know how he is!
Exactly my thoughts. Had to take my 8 year-old chihuahua started hacking, whining, urinating more often. I wanted to help her and make her feel better, but didn't know what was wrong. Took her to the vet today. Multiple tests were run, x-rays, etc. Vet says it's either heart failure or pneumonia. I didn't know it would be so stresfull on me too......I hope for the best though. Off to fill the prescription.

Sarah, I'm praying for you and Chevy!
Checking in to see if we have news. Prayers that all goes well.
