Injured cruciate acl....

Does anyone have a corgi that had a torn or partially torn cruciate? Looking to see which type of surgery is recommended due to the pressure corgis put on their legs having such short legs for their body size.

I had the easier surgery done twice and both times it failed. My corgi is a big guy.

@Dave & Danielle, did you find a solution? What surgery did you opt for? Brody tore his ACL on Friday (he is having x-rays done as we speak to confirm) and I've been trying to research like mad woman and I'm just left even more confused.. We are thinking of going with the traditional (extracapsular) surgery as I've read that TPLO is more suitable for larger breeds.

After extensive research and hearing what others did, we agreed to crate her two full weeks except when she sat nex to us on the couch, to see if it made any difference. We got two more crates which made it a lot easier. We put one in the livingroom and one in the bedroom which made it a lot easier for her so she wouldn't feel left out. After two weeks, she was standing flat on her paw instead of on her toes. After a couple more weeks passed, she stopped holding it up. She still has a slight hop but will continue with the "conservative method". They say it takes at least 4 months to heal after surgery up to 8 months. If at any point she does not seem to continue to improve, we will take her back to get checked. If surgery is needed, we would go with the ex cap. I read the TPLO needs to be done by an orthopedic surgeon and usually used for large breeds, and dogs over 40lbs, and stabilizes the muscle better to get a faster result. But the final decision should be determined by the vet, based on the dog and its situation. I also read that if you chose to wait and see, you can still have the surgery done at a later time.
