I found this site. It gives a bit of information about widened growth plates. I know it is geared toward children, but your Baron is still young. I am sorry I don't really have much else to help. Good luck. Good vibes are on the way to you from me and Kota.

our girlkeri had the growth plate issue also in her front joint.we contacted the vet and her breeder,and were recommended to use shark cartilege supplement plus the usual msm/condroitin.she will be 2 in oct,and she now has full use without the
severe problem.if we go for one of our 3 mile walks out camping etc,she'll limp when she first gets up from a nap,but after that,she's fine.scary situation for owners!!

Hey there Teresa I was just wondering how Baron is doing now with the limp? My Luna just recently started to limp and she is exactly 6 1/2 months old. And I know and read a lot of people just said to switch her to adult food or all breed food and see how she is. Because she's limping sometimes in her front legs only because i see her walk but its very unnoticeable unless i really really look at her but sometimes her limping switches from one left to another and than sometimes she doesn't limp so it's very weird. I don't know what to make of it. But what was Baron diagnosed with?

Any response would help at this point it's been 2 weeks and a half now. thank you!

Hi Michelle.  Baron still has episodes of limping when he overdoes it, especially after running around and playing with his doggie friends.  He also had times when he doesn't limp at all or you have to look real closely to notice it.  We switched Baron from Eukenuba Large Breed puppy to Merrick puppy chow at 3 months old & after he started limping switched him to Merrick adult food. He primarily limps with the front legs, the right being more noticeable than the left.  The breeder and I took Baron to the Metropolitan Veterinary Associates where he saw a canine orthopedic surgeon.  After an overnight stay for x-rays under sedation and an exam Baron was diagnosed with premature growth plate closure of the right front leg. He also has some mild neurological damage which causes him to drag his front paws.  The vet prescribed Cosequin DS 2 pills 2 times daily along with antiinflammatory for flareups. I am happy to report that between the Merrick dry dog food and the cosequin, Baron is doing better than hoped for.  I will be taking Baron back to the specialist next month after he turns 2 years old to see if surgery is still necessary.  The vet agreed to wait till after he was 2 years old to see if he still needs the surgery.  Good luck and keep us posted.  Teresa & Baron.

Michelle..Luna sounds just like Murray was at that age.  Our vet took xrays and sent them to a radiologist who said his growth plates were normal.  The conclusion was "growing pains" and he would grow out of it in a few months, which is exactly what happened.

Okay i'll try to not start to bore you as I go into details LOL sorry. okay... she started limping around 2 and a half weeks ago. She is approximately 6 and a 1/2 months now.

In the morning sometimes not all the times it's very noticeable. Than throughout the day she'll limp but you can barely tell unless you really look at her. But her limping doesn't only stay on one front leg it goes back and fourth and than sometimes she doesn't limp at all!

When we go out to use the restroom she can walk just fine and runs as well to catch up with me with no problem. She's just limping once in a while.

I'm also thinking it's growing pains but than i've asked a few corgi owners and they don't seem to have had any trouble such as that or maybe the ones i asked just never had this kind problem with their puppies. LOL

But what did you do with Murray? did you change his diet and keep him off his feet for a while? or just still let him walk but don't let him climb things or jumping from anything? I just went out tonight and got her some all breed food from Taste of the Wild brand to help with the growth. And I also got some Glucosamine tablets that has 500mg of calcium to help as well. what's your opinion? thank you so much for you reply by the way!! :D
