Man of the house...
Hey guys!
I'm looking for a little advice on how to help Tegan get over his new habit. He's a neutered male, who is usually extremely submissive, knows I am the alpha and listens PERFECTLY to my every wish. However, I am a girl and so is the kitty he lives with, so now that my boyfriend is living here part time, Tegan has decided it's time to declare he is the MAN of the house.
He's bit my boyfriend (not hard) when he's reached over to cuddle my while we're sleeping (tegan sleeps on my opposite side that my boyfriend does.). He's peed on my boyfriends shoes, and now he's peeing on the bed wheever I go to class and my boyfriend is still asleep OR neither of us is home. He's also ripped up several things of mine while I've been out.
When my boyfriend isn't here he is his usual self, a little angel. Waits to go outside to potty, etc.
HOW can I get tegan to be okay with my boyfriend??? I feel awful, like Tegan feels neglected or something, but I don't know what to do. Tegan and him play and socialize, and Tegan seems to love him... EXCEPT when he is in the bed (which i assume is because Tegan basically does nothing but sleep on the bed and therefore sees it as his territory...)
I want my lover boys to get along peacefully. :[ hahaha

Involve your BF in walking him, let him handle Tegan during walks, let your BF hand feed Tegan, make sure you two have the same rules, exercise and discipline Tegan the same way. A lot of the behavior problems can be solved by exercise, so amp up this area and see. Good luck and keep us updated!

I think I would invest in a new bed for Tegan on the floor. He is definitely being possessive of you. Eliminating the only place where this seems to occur would be an easy fix. You may feel sorry for him and he may be a bit confused when the rules change. If he gets on the couch with you I would do a bit of retraining so he is not allowed up unless you invite him. He must also get down when you ask. Sounds like you need to structure his life a bit more. Dogs behave this way because they can and no one ever told them not to. Sadly often times behaviors brew for a fairly long time unnoticed. It is when something such as a bite occurs that the problem is noticed at all. I would also suggest that you find a good training class in your area. Learning a bit more about dog behavior as well as having him a bit more controlled will help immensely. Good luck!
