My corgi, Wylie, stinks. It is like an odor that he emits, like a skunk or badger. Batheing only helps for a day or so; but I have never been comfortable with the idea of frequently batheing a dog because I feel like it dries out their skin. Is this something that is common with the breed? Does anyone know how to improve it?

He reminds me of a dirty, smelly little boy.

Have you smelled Wylie's ears, maybe he has an ear infection?
His ears are fine and so is his breath, this is more his coat. He smells like a farm.
Natalie's right about the ear thing but also puppies sometimes have an odor that goes away in time. And also it might just be his natual body oils that are making him smell
And try this I found it and it supposedly gets rid of the smell you should try it sometime...

Mix together 16 oz. of peroxide , 1/4 c. of baking soda
and 3 tsp. blue dawn dish soap in a 32 oz. jug .Add 1/4 c. of the strongest smelling shampoo you have on hand to aid in forming the lather. After putting these things in the jug, fill the jug up with water . Use this mixture to give
the dog a bath . Work up a good lather and let sit on the
dog for about 3-5 min. If the dog starts getting restless
just start working the shampoo agian. Rinse the dog well.
If you don't it leaves a residue which will dry out the skin
and cause him to itch.
Once you've rinsed him off give him a second bath with
children's baby shampoo.
If this doesn't seem to do the trick then talk to your
vet about the possiblity of bacterial infection or parasites.
This is used to get rid of skunk smell if your dog is sprayed but it should work for Wylie.
I hope that I have been of some help.
Thanks I will try this recipe. Hope you are right!
There was another thread on this same subject last week. You might try checking that out as well. So you make sure the fully wash the soap out of Wylie's coat? Soap actually attracts dirt, so if you don't watch it out well enough he'll probably get dirty a lot sooner. Does Wylie spend a lot of time outside? He might just be rolling in something gross. Good luck!
Yes, they do like rollling in stinky things!! Lance loves to roll on dead worms.....eww
Like a barn? Have you fed him cow's hooves, or bully sticks lately? I've noticed that those reeeeally stink my boy up.
OMG!!! That is exactly what it is!! I never even realized it, but Wylie LOVES cow hooves; he has half a dozen or more. THANK YOU! You have know idea how greatful I am for this seemingly obvious suggestion! I will let you know if he smells better after a bath and removal of the hooves.
