natural flea control

Hi
Down in the south we have lots of humid weather which lends itself to flea/tick production!!!
We use a product now, but would love to hear what others use for their pups and if it is an alternative flea/tick control med. I really am concerned about all ingredients and long term effect of the frontline, etc. stuff.

You can spinkle salt and baking soda on the carpet, leave it for half a day, it'll dry up the fleas. You can also put a tea light candle on a plate, put a litle soapy water and leave it in the middle of the room at night, the heat will attract the flea and the soapy water will drown and keep the flea stuck on the plate.

Some dogs are allergic to garlic, so use it in your own digression. Also you can also try tea tree oil extract rubbed in the fur.

What?! If I ever find fleas in this house again I'm trying this candle idea -- I'm so curious! Have you ever actually tried this or have you just heard of it?

yes, tried them all. I like to do all the natural stuff first before going pharma. The methods mentioned above only works on light fleas condition.

Your climate is very different, but here in Seattle (cool, damp) there used to be (?) an outfit called Fleabusters that would dust your carpets & upholstery with polyborate salts -- borax, essentially -- my understanding is that this dehydrates the fleas. Not a neurotoxin like chemical insecticides. We did this back when we hat 1 cat. They guaranteed results for 1 year; we thought it was effective for 3. We were quite pleased. YMMV.

We use either Frontline or Advantage; we are in San Diego where it is warm and we get lots of fleas.
In the past, when I had a cat, we used brewer's yeast in his food to keep the fleas away. It worked somewhat, but not in the heat of summer.

Patti and I run a small business where we sell all-natural flea treatment: Tank's Trendy Trinkets and Pet Products. To treat our clan became expensive and a couple of the dogs have skin allergies. The use of chemical treatments were too harsh. After much experimentation, Patti started making our own for both the dogs and cats. We've used it for over a year now and, even with 16 animals in the house, we have no problem with fleas. It's really quite good. If you're interested email Patti at tankstrendytrinkets@comcast.net.
