Neutering Question

Hello all,

Kenji is our first dog, a male dog at that. My question is regarding neutering.
Kenji is currently recovering from his neuter. We had him neutered last Saturday.
My question below is a bit graphic but I am not sure how else to describe it.

The thing is, when I come home, he is usually just waking up so he is a bit aroused and whatnot.
I can see his private is hard and I notice 2 testicles next to it, one on each side. Now correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the whole purpose of neutering is to remove the testicles? Is that what I am seeing?

I had to laugh because I did the same thing after Wrigley got neutered. My boyfriend (who grew up with dogs) had a pretty good laugh at my expense.

I think the messed up part is that I was comparing his region to mine and was like, hmm, I know what those looks like and I swear I paid to get them taken out.. I was so pissed off in the beginning thinking that I have to bring him back to the vet and have him do the correct procedure. It was good that I found the answer prior to making a fuss at the vet, lolol

When I first saw them I had asked my g/f and she was like, "wtf are you talking about" hahaha.

Another funny thing is me finding different phrases to type on Google to finally find my answer.
