Ning.com and MyCorgi.com - Content Ownership and Control

Hi all,

I've been told that ning.com networks and their subscribers might not be working in member's best interests.  See for example:

http://ning.it/M5xeXl

I have sent a message to the MyCorgi.com website owner, but have yet to get a reply.  I have also talked a little bit with the Ning.com people, but have yet to determine whether members can control:

1. Their membership data (profile data, etc.)

2. Their text, image, and video submissions.

By "control" I mean a member's ability to request the deletion of all or specific content of any kind.  We all love to show off our Corgis, but we certainly wouldn't want any of our submitted data of any kind to be used by third parties as facilitated by Ning.com or MyCorgi.com.  Naturally, content theft by parties outside of Ning.com or MyCorgi.com is another matter entirely.

What do you think about your property rights?

Hi Steve, who is this owner that you sent a message to and when? Who are these ning people that you talked to? Yes, the members can delete their content at any time.

Hi Sam,

I chatted with Eric Suesz.  There are various provisions in the ning.com Terms of Service that make one wonder whether members own their content.  The Terms of Service on the MyCorgi.com site don't even talk about content ownership and control.  In our times where information matters, it is important for members to know exactly where they stand with respect to content ownership, privacy, and control options and what processes one should follow if one wishes to delete or redact content.  Any information you can provide will be greatly appreciated.  If such provisions can be added to your Terms of Service, that would be even better.

Many thanks for your understanding about the importance of content ownership and control.

Best regards,

Steve Amerige

Hi Steve,

Who is this owner of MyCorgi.com that you initially messaged, when and where did you send this message? How long did you wait before deciding to post a non corgi related question? I don't appreciate postings of false information or attempting to instill fear among our membership.

Everything Ning related, talk to Kyle Ford directly. Everything MyCorgi.com related, talk to me directly.

MyCorgi.com members own their content 100%, members can delete their content anytime. Our charity projects, all publications that features our member's corgis images are all done with member's consent per  project. Profile information are not shared with any 3rd parties. We are a 501c3 non profit charity, not a content reseller. Please read the "About" page for more info.

I tried to message you directly 30 mins ago without a response, if you have any other concerns, feel free to contact me directly, we like to keep everything corgi related on the forum only. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

I am naive and more or less ignorant about usage of public websites. I have heard various things about FB but never heard of ning.com.  I do know that on FB, you can lift pictures right off of another person's page. I have really enjoyed using mycorgi.com as I love to show off my babies so I hope there are no problems.

Sam and I talked and the matter is now very clear. Member's content is well protected.  Please see the updated Terms of Service!  Sam... what a guy! +++
