Dear Members of Mycorgi.com

I am a proud new owner of RTC here.

Although it is still a long time for my puppy to get spayed, I have already started considering spaying my puppy like any responsible dog owners would do. Just to make myself any clearer, I am against any irresponsible breeding at home whether the owners have well intentions or not. Wanting to have your next "pooch" does not do any justice to the female dog considering what they have to go through from pregnancy period to birth. Furthermore it will just serve to fulfill your ego and selfishness and NO, you do not care about your female dog if you do that.

Now I have enough with introduction and would like to get to the point. I have consulted with a local vet here regarding spay and she advised me to have my puppy spayed at 7 months old. She also advised for ovary-sparing spay which means only the uterus will be removed and the ovaries will be spared. This means the female dog will still go through estrous cycle and secrete pheromones to attract male dogs. However she will lose her ability to produce litters and there will not be any period anymore. Here is the website that explains it:

My question is has any member of the forum done that? What is your experience with that and do you notice any difference with your pooch in terms of attitude and physical appearance? How different it is as compared to traditional spaying method which removes both uterus and ovaries?

Many thanks
