Hi everyone!

In preparation of getting a corgi puppy I read as many threads on this forum as possible. I read a lot about personality differences and sometimes I feel this is exactly what I am looking for, but other times not so much!
My question to you is:

When you chose your puppy, were you able to tell what kind of personality or character your dog had? And did that change once he/she got older?

Some are snuggly, others hate it
Some bark a lot, others don't
Some are hyper and wake in early morne, others sleep in and love to chill....

How do I know which pup will be the right one for me?!
Did you know?

If you are looking forward to a calm, quiet dog, you might want to consider an older dog... or a golden retriever. LOL. A corgi puppy will be full of energy for several years. I like the high energy personally. If I wanted a calmer dog I would probably look at different breeds. And corgis like to bark. Mine didn't start out as much of a barker, but she is starting to become more vocal. I think she is starting to alert when something is 'a little different' from the norm.

My Corgi is clear calmer than moat Goldens I have been around, unless he is in full out play or agility mode.  My take on most Goldens and Labs I see any more is that they're jumping around every where and leaving a path of destruction until they're at least 3 or 4 yrs old.  Maybe that's just the way they are in NE???

LOL. I would have to agree on the labs and goldens. I previously had a lab and she didn't settle down until she was 4! Then she was an amazingly good dog. I mentioned goldens because they are known for not barking mostly. Or so I've heard from the service dog folks.

Our breeder knew Porter was noise sensitive and food motivated at 10 weeks. While we felt food motivation would be a great training aide, he sometimes as an adult is FOOD AGGRESSIVE and we have to work with that.

I've been told and believe that the dog you need, not necessarily the dog you THINK YOU WANT, finds you. Porter is my second corgi, my first lived to be 16.  They could not be more different.  But I love Porter just as I loved my first corgi (who I got as a freshman in high school and lost at 29).

Check out the breeders other dogs. Or find an adult rescue or adult former show dog.- You'll know the personality right off!

Good luck!
