Does anyone have Corgis & cats?  We're looking for the best pet gate that would keep a pup secure but let the cats come and go as they please.  Some I've seen with the pet doors seem geared for bigger dogs, and I'm not 100% on the size of a Corgi puppy.

Like this, for example:

Pet Gate #1

Don't know if it will work for a puppy, though it might be ok for a full grown Corgi.  We won't get a puppy till the fall, but are already preparing supplies and such.

Thanks!

My corgis, even full grown, can fit through the cat door we have for the cats.

My brother has this gate to keep the dogs out of one room. He closes the door portion and it keeps the chihuahua (she's only about 6 pounds) out of the room but the cats still manage to somehow squeeze through the bars. The cats will be able to jump over any gate so even one that is lower in height would work well to keep puppy out and still allow the kitties to come and go. Franklin can easily go in and out the opening in the dog door type gate and he is a full grown adult. I'd see if you could find something about half that height as corgi puppies tend to not be the most coordinated animals! Lol. It would allow your kitties to jump over easily but keep the corgi out. Many can't even jump on the couch for a while so jumping over shorter gates would be difficult. I use a dining room chair laid sideways at my parents house when I want to block a room and Franklin (even though he jumps up and over EVERYTHING) only just recently realized he could jump over it!

Yeah, depending on the width of the bar openings, I could see the cats squeezing through easily and the pup not.  I just don't think the pet door openings account for Corgi sizes.

Especially considering how inquisitive they are, I could easily see one trying to figure out what the door is, and how to make it work pretty quickly.

I've used this type of gate with all kind of dogs and the cats, even as kittens, had no problem climbing over them:

I just get the wood baby gate from wal-mart.  Works great and it's adjustable to width.

I have this gate both at home and at my office door at work.  It's metal, has held up for 2 1/2 years with lots of daily use, and the cats jump over it.  I have a cat tree on the inside to give them a landing place.  They love to languish on the tree and watch the dog.  Pressure mounted so no holes in the walls.

Our cats easily leap over the gates. We have one wood/mesh baby gate and one walk-through type.

Cool, thanks for all the info, guys. I think, considering how our cats behave, we'll be probably be forgoing the whole 'cat door in a gate' thing.

I have 2 cats, who were 12 when i brough Lucy home. Needless to say, the cats want nothing to do with her. For the first 6 weeks or so, I tried a couple of baby gates (the suction/ crank kind, not the secure to wall kind), but 2 problems emerged: Lucy the energetic puppy could easily knock it down (because of baseboard molding it never fit properly anyway not matter how I rigged it) and two, one of my cats actually could not jump over it.

So I gave up on the gates and went for the ex pen, which Lucy still uses, and the cats roam free without blockades. The cats will actually sleep in the same room with her now if she is in her ex pen. Big improvement in canine-feline relations.

We have a gate where it has a cat door attached for our cate to get through. We have a lab so she definitely can't fit through the hole but she could when she was a puppy. There is one on amazon here is the link http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000JJFNJK hope this helps
I just saw that's the one you have posted at the top lol it works great for us !
Hi ,years ago when we had our cat Magic(r.i.p.sweety)we never worried ,she could jump over any gate etc. The animals seemed to "sort" it all out by themselves, not so sure you need to buy a special gate, good luck in your search.
