Pink chin

Baxter has a check up this month, but I figure I'd ask this here first. Lately Baxter's white chin has been turning a pink color. It usually happens when he's laying down or resting after a walk. Is this just typical blood flow or might he be allergic to something?

Depends on how pink you're talking about. Is it raw? or just skin pink? I know some dogs who use areas to lay on get that.. my parents lab actually had rough skin on her elbows instead of fur because of the way she laid.

I've seen my pups with it but it never seemed to bother them and it always went away so Im guessing its like blood flow. If you sit on the ground and rest with your body propped by your arm, your hand gets a weird blood flow too.. so Im assuming its the same thing.

It's not raw, just pink skin. It's sort of cute when it happens, the pink is just on his chin and the very front part of his muzzle.

I've been noticing that happening with Frosty a lot lately. Haven't been able to find any common activity that causes it. Happens when he's asleep, or after going outside, after playing, just randomly all the time. I don't have any idea what it is, but glad to know that mine is not the only one. It is kind of like he has a color changing bottom jaw. Skin changes from light pink to dark pink and then back again after a minute or two.

Midas had that happen and although he has seasonal allergies, I don't think there is any connection in his case. He always got pink after a good walk or play session. He also gets a little pink if we go to the dog park in the snow. I believe it's just some blood flow like after we would workout our cheeks might get rosie. Or in the cold they would get chapped. It has always went away after a short resting time.

This happens to Pooka, and it sounds like the same situation. I have deduced... that it happens... when she is hot!! She gets quite hot napping in our bed.

My husband always thinks she's having allergies but I totally think its just when she's hot and they lose heat through their mouth.
