Right someone has to lead me on this one. LO is still shitting and pissing in the house. I don't know if you all recall last week when we went on a poopy standoff 4 1/2 hours and I lost track of him when he was outside so even at that point I don't know if he pooped.

A few times I have put him on the couch with me to sleep (restless leg) and he will eat brekki at 6am (daddy feeds them) he will come straight back to me and I will put him back on the couch and he will sleep a few more hours without peeing or pooping after brekkie. He will do something then peek around my mom's door, I say LO peek around the door before you do you business. He will jump on me I will take him out and he just wants to play. He will stand by the door, I will let him out he will just play. We leave the door open and he still poops and pees in the house.

He does pee and poop outside it seems to be the he doesn't know that he has to go, then he feels it and goes wherever he may be. I don't seem to notice a frantic sniffing around that would indicate potty time. We have a dog that kinda itimidates LO maybe he doesn't want to go out side with him.

He has always held it at night, maybe he likes to do it privately or something cos he seems to go when not a one of us (5) sees it happening usually.

Have you taken training class with LO? We were told by our trainer that it might be a good idea to take Charlie out on a leash to go potty. Charlie used to do the same thing, she would only want to play when we went outside, and then started repeatedly having accidents in the house. She'd go to the door, wait, and then just play. I'd take her outside for an hour and she'd never go potty! Anyway, the trainer said that she's associating outside with play instead of potty, so we are supposed to take her out on the leash and if she goes potty she gets to play as a reward. Of course if she goes potty we praise her as well, and she responds well to the attention. Charlie is also being crate trained. So if we go outside for a while with her on the leash and she doesn't go potty, we put her in the crate for a while to prevent her from wandering around the house and having accidents. She tends to sleep in the crate on her own anyway, so if she does go potty (poo and pee) then we let her wander around the house as a reward because we know she wont have any accidents. After she's played and everything, she gets exhausted and sleeps for a while so we take her out immediately after she sleeps. We take her out after she hasn't gone for a while and we see her sniffing around a lot, and we also take her out after she gets excited or plays/runs excessively. You should probably monitor LO for a bit and see if he has picked up a regular potty schedule yet. If he goes at certain times, you know when to take him out. Sometimes Charlie doesn't even sniff she just squats and I'm like "NOOOOOO!!" but I've learned that since she ISN'T potty trained yet, that if she wanders out of sight, I have to chase her or follow her so I can make sure to scold her for going in the house. Oh the joys of having a puppy. :)
use the leash to take your dog out, i dont let my corgi have play time until he does his business. when he goes potty i say "go potty" "good boy!" but just right when he's doing it. you have to give the command right when they do it and say good potty when they're done, give them a treat even, until they know that the command means to do their business on the spot. then they can play, ein knows his ticket to playing with the dogs nextdoor is to potty right when and where i want him to. perhaps try getting a crate for your pup since you cant keep an eye on him? my pup ein is 16 weeks old and is house broken, he just stays in his crate overnight now. before then i put him in his crate when someone couldnt have constant watch over him. if you catch them going in the house, stomp and/or clap to distract them from it, pick them up instantly and put them outside. praise them for going in the yard. also your pup will have to go to the bathroom like 10 or 15 minutes after it ingests anything. dinner, a drink, a snack.. ein was pooping 10 times a day. but he's holding it better now thank goodness... lol oh and also your pup may be trying to hide when he does it if you scold him in the act. they will frighten them out of going to the bathroom all together. i did the same thing to ein out of impulse when i caught him doing the business on the carpet for the first time lol. he didnt pee for hours after that.. xD
Me too -- always took my dogs out on leash for "business" purposes when housebreaking. If they did't do anything within a reasonable time, we would come back inside, and I would repeat any time I saw "suspicious" behavior indoors (like pacing, sniffing -- you get to know the "business" walk/attitude -- it's not so much frantic, as it is just different, or a loss of attention toward you or a toy or whatever they might be doing at that moment). Sometimes we were in and out of the house 5 times in a half hour, early in the game, but they caught on quickly. Once they were well housebroken, THEN we would go outside without the leash and play -- believe me, they know the difference now between business and pleasure outings. Take him out on the leash and walk him around -- my dogs always have found one area of the yard to be the best potty zone, and once that area was established ( in our case, it's an area with leaf litter and some rakings), walking them over to that zone was a secondary message that it was time to pee or poo. And then of course, treats and pets and shouting and dancing when they did the required business!
I have narrowed it down a little, def. not paying attention to him, outside time = playtime to him.
A schedule and taking him out on a leash should help train him better. While on the leash don't let him play etc, when he goes praise him (I use a clicker and a treat) Also if he is hiding and going in the house that is usually because he has been scolded in the past for going in the house. Think about it someone yells and you so the next time you hide when you are doing said thing. Most pups need to go out at least every two hours. Mine goes out after eating, sleeping, and / or playing for an extended period. Yes this is a lot of work but worth it in the end. My dear girl age almost 4 months is completely house trained and it even asking to go out. She has never been yelled at for going in the house and was taken out on a leash etc. Sorry you are having such a difficult time. By you message I don't know how old your pup is. Good luck with the house training. Karen
