Hello- this is my first post here on this site and I hope I can get some help from some Corgi experts! I adopted my corgi from Sunshine Corgi Rescue last year so I am still new to the breed.
My Corgi's skin and hair are absolutely terrible! He has really bad, dry skin and tufts of his hair pull off from the dry skin. I mean, literally, chunks of his hair! I took him to the vet and they cultured his skin and put him on antibx- and that was about a month and a half ago; but still his skin looks terrible. He has bald spots from the hair falling out. The vet did not find any infections, so I really suspect an allergy. I changed out his food and started to give him salmon oil gel caps to help.
My question is: have any of you guys out there experienced this before? I'm thinking of switching to a raw food diet, to eliminate the possibility of a corn or grain allergy. Any thoughts, comments, or advice would really help! Thank you!

My corgi doesn't have skin problems, but my other dog (an Aussie, Lab, Beagle mix who lives with my parents) had horrible skin and hot spots that she would chew until they were bleeding. I took her to the vet and they gave me 1000 mg fish oil pills that she gets once a day with food. Along with the skin, they should make his fur better. This is the case with Hershi.
The one pill, once a day thing may need to be ongoing, but we saw good results within 2 weeks (if not sooner) so hang in there if it has not been long since you started giving him the pills.
Hope he can get better and you find a solution that works.
(I'm by no means an expert, just wanted to share my experience)
So Sweet! I wish Sidney could get along with other dogs like yours seems to. He gets so jealous and starts growling if I even pet my parent's Lab!
Thank you!
My corgi is named Sidney too! His skin was never as bad as your Sidney's is, but he has had some skin issues. I've been giving him skin/coat oil (avocado oil) from a company that makes allergy-friendly dog treats called Foxy treats. Foxy is a corgi too!
Here is a link to their site. The supplement does not seem to be on their site yet, but I'm sure if you shoot Tasha an email she'll tell you all about it. It works well and SIdney loves the taste of it. PLease let us know how things are going with your Sidney.
Frequent bathing can cause dry skin...and I think the weather can too? Try bathing him with oatmeal along with the antibiotics and salmon oil.

Hope Sidney gets better soon!
Thank you guys for your advice! I have tried the oatmeal bath, too-actually tried the Aveeno soap and that seem to help with the irritation. I'm also going to switch to a raw diet to see of that will help. The weather here in Jax, Florida has been fluctuating from freezing cold to mildly hot, so maybe its the weather? I don't know.
I just feel bad for the little guy and I'm glad I have found a group that can give me some good advice.
