Strange Behavior

So last night was very windy, we were woken up at about 5:00 by Lance who is enclosed in a room by gates. He was pacing in circles and jumping up at the gate and wasnt barking at all. The fire alarm was beeping because it needed a new battery, he really didnt seem to like that noise. Wind storms never have seemed to effect Lance before. Do you think the beeping low battery of the fire alarm worked Lance up?
What does everyone think? Hopefully it was just the alarm that he didnt like.

It could be that Lance didn't like the high-frequency beeping or he wanted to alert you guys that something was wrong, like a guard dog.

I am thinking that is what it was but the no barking throws me off, was he too scared to bark?

I am pretty sure it was the alarm. Or if you leave any window open, a scent of any animal around (like a squirrel or a raccoon). Maybe a branch feel outside? Or maybe he was thirsty? Wanted to go out for "business"( too windy=too cold= bladder needs release? Do somebody in your household wakes up at that time to get ready to work daily? Check if it happens tonight. Hopefully it was nothing.

Yes, ours just ran out of battery and Vienna DON'T like it with a capital "D". She got very nervous and jumped on the night stand last nite, I woke up with her butt in my face.

I'd say it was the smoke alarm beeping. An unusual noise and Lance somehow knew it wasn't suppose to be doing that. He was just trying to get you awake to check it out. Duncan and Chloe are pretty good about unusual noises. If they don't run to the sound and bark, Duncan is walking stiff legged around the house, trying to find it. Love that on guard walk from such a little thing.

Yep, most likely the alarm. The high-pitched sound can really hurt their ears.

Thanks Everyone! Wanted to make sure everyone thought the same thing I did. Lance was fine the following night, so it had to be the alarm.

I woke up to my Corgi shaking and frightened one night when the fire alarm was beeping for a new battery. Now he is scared to death of fire alarms, and to this day he won't come near the kitchen while we're cooking, just in case the fire alarm goes off! It's funny how sensitive they are to noises like that. I would be interested to know how Lance reacts to them in the future!
