Sidney gets Dentastix and also occasional raw marrow bones. His teeth are very clean and he has nice doggie breath. Maybe it 's the food? What do you feed him?

He'll be 3 I'n June, I just fee him dog chow. It's not like something wrong smell but he shouldn't have that much build up u don't think. I'll be trying all the suggestions thanks!

How old is he? He may be teething which will cause nasty breath.

have the Vet check closely.  Poodeck had a tooth that was split vertically and I did not know.  He (P.D. not the Vet) never went off his food, never cried out in pain by the time we found it the Vet took it out immediately.  Nasty!

I use Petrodex toothpaste. I use human toothbrushes--I get a 6 pack from the dollar store. "Dog" toothbrushes at the pet store are absurdly expensive. While he's still a pup you can buy the kiddie toothbrushes. I brush his teeth probably 3 times a week. In between brushings, I use Tropiclean mint foam to keep his breath fresh. I also use Tropiclean's water additive in their water bowl. 

I must say, with all the dental products I've been using, it really has paid off. My vet thought my corgi and two cats were much younger because their teeth look so great. Plus, it really could save you a lot of money. I work at a vet and I've seen so many pets that have to get tons of teeth pulled--it's expensive! It's never too early or too late to start brushing! :)

I give mine big cooked beef joint bones.  They clean their teeth chewing on the bones.  A vet friend commented on how clean their teeth are.

Have you had the vet check his teeth?  If he has a bad one, that can cause his bad doggie breath.

some dog foods (ie: Purina dog chow) can cause bad breath for many reasons including undigestability of ingredients, tartar build up, etc. What the others are suggesting about getting teeth checked & marrow bones are 2 of the best routes to take! My dog gets a marrow or knuckle bone almost every morning. The only time his breath is stinky is if he gets a bully stick. (which goes away after he's done chewing)

So have your vet check for bad tooth 1st, then develope your own "maintenence" plan for doggie dental hygiene :)
