I know that this topic has been touched on before, but I was wondering if I could get some opinions.

I am going to be getting Rockstar a new collar, but before I do, I want some advice. I had been using a rolled leather collar, but since he's outgrown it, I was wanting to get something different. The leather was nice at first, but recently has rubbed his hair raw. I also wonder if getting a martangle style collar would help with hair issues.

I looked on a couple websites, including Cozy Critter and Collar Mania. I was interested to know if anyone had ordered collars from these sites and if so, does satin lining really help with hair issues. I use a prong style training collar for working Rockstar (we are doing it with the help of a dog trainer to teach him a service) so the other collar is basically for tags and casual walking.

Anyway, thoughts on this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

See the collar FAQ. It has a photo of my modified Martingale collar, everything possible done to make it light: nylon webbing, chain and O-ring removed and replaced with light Perlon, adjustment buckle removed and permanently stitched down after girth is established, leash as light as possible also. The Martingale slips easily on and off (a feature you may not want). Our dogs do not wear collars indoors, so we often take them on-and-off, a hazard if they get out accidentally, but they are also chipped.
Removal of the chain makes it quieter, too (although the sound of the chain through the D-rings may be a auditory cue for the dog).
Make sure hardware is stainless steel, not aluminum or plated metal, to avoid discoloration of fur.
