OK, I did it. I took the 3 inadequate upright vacs out of the garage and to the salvation army.  I attached the instruction booklets and new filters for each and then.... I BOUGHT A DYSON.

I honestly don't know if this one will last but at least it has a guaranatee for 5 years!  I spent an entire day last week, online and on the phone, trying to find some one to fix, repair and tune upof  any  the collection of Hoovers.  Not only could I not find anyone, but the nearest place was in San Antonio (60 miles_ and they advised me not to try to get any one of the collection fixed.  The prices for reparis were $100-140 for a $200 machine!  so frustrating and perhaps a sign of our ecnomy that several small appliance repair businesses had disappeared locally.

We live in very dusty country, rural Texas so i know that I did sort of use up these machines but I really wanted to get them fixed not buy another one.  My best solution was to pass them along and hope another household can make use of them--which is what the local Salvation Army told me would happen. They have a repair shop and also said that vacs don't stay very long with them.

Anyway, no Corgi household could do without a vac.  And we have 3 Corgis and 2 cats...the ball dyson is taking a little bit of getting used to since it handles so differently but wow, the carpets are crazy clean.

At least until the dogs come back inside....

I think it's hilarious when the tumble bunnies of fur get big enough to name. Never happens on carpet. :-)
BTW, I know a former rainbow dealer- overpriced and messy to empty. All of the "stuff" dumps into a water tank. Do you want that going down your drain or in your yard? Um, no. Not for me. I'd gag. :-)
We got a Dyson 3 years ago and it works awesome!! We didn't get the ball, just the standard purple upright, but it is definitely amazing at picking up pet hair. Took me a long time to talk my husband into spending so much on a vacuum, but I think it is totally worth it. Frosty is not a big fan though!! lol!!
Note to self... buy a Dyson for new house...
Ok, I"ve been reading this and just have to stop and go vaccuum!
