So, I'm just curious. I have a purely red/white corgi, but a while ago, I noticed that he had some black hairs speckled in his coat near his withers. So I pulled one such hair out and inspected it. Turns out that the bottom half of the hair is jet black, but that in the middle it turns completely white, and then gradually turns to his reddish coat color by the time it reaches the tip. Just out of curiosity, does anyone else's corgi seem to have these weird strands in their fur too?

Chloe has it right at her shoulder blades. Its a big chunk of black/red furs. Its black tipped and red at the bottom.. I thought it was color change but she is still a red/white.
Interesting! That exactly opposite of what Brian is. I just thought it was the weirdest thing b/c he doesn't have any black in his coat (well, except for around his muzzle).
I've noticed that Koa is getting a small white stripe that starts out inside his ear and makes it's way around the back of his ear! He is also developing a black spot on his nose...Don't you love it when you think you have them figured out they change on you!!!! BTW Koa is going to be two next month!
Heh. Sounds exactly like Dax. Almost all of the fur on his back is black at the bottom, then a lighter tan-ish color, then red. It gives him that nice dark red look on his back. On the back of his ears and a little on his face he's got some black tips which I LOVE, and on (some of) his belly his fur goes from white at the bottom to a lighter red color at the top, though most of his belly is white. It's actually funny because he's got these lines that go around his shoulder blades (I guess that's what you'd call them) that are lighter than the rest of the fur on his back, and the fluff on his butt (which I call his pants. :) ) is really light color. When he was a puppy his whole back was black and so was most of his head, just goes to show how much they can change..
yeah, Brian seems to have lighter "lines" around his shoulders too. I'm curious if there's a scientific reason for the mutli-colored hair strands though...
ein has the same thing going on. since we know very little about his background i was really baffled at the occurrence of the black hairs. i know a dog's coat can change colors (mostly due to shedding and the season) so i assumed that this is just one of those things. i remember my old cocker spaniel would be a beautiful buff color in the fall, then a champagne color in the winter and then to a brilliant deep red for the spring and summer :) oh nature, you never cease to amaze me! lol.
Winston has those too. His mom had some noticeable black markings, so I thought he might have those once he gets older, but I asked my vet and he said they're just random and Winston's coat won't change.
