Vectra Flea and Tick Control

I just thought I'd post a little review about this stuff. My vet gave it to us last month instead of the Advantix that Jasper had previously been on. Initially, the applicator was a lot easier to use than the Advantix and the vet recommended it, so we were happy. Until about 2 weeks in, when we found 2 ticks on Jasp! A week and a half later, the tick total has come to about 6. We had no flea or tick problems with Advantix, and it was really disconcerting to find so many ticks on my little guy. I don't know if it's because Jasper's getting older and we're going out and exploring more places than we used to, but I just think it's unacceptable to find so many bugs on my pup when he's on flea/tick control. I went back to the Vet to get some Advantix and they told me they no longer carry it so I had to go to another vet because I refuse to put him back on that stuff. Just thought I'd post my experience with it for anyone who was interested.

That's interesting. A vet up here is recommending Vectra too, and my friend used it for her two little cockapoo pups (they weight 8 and 13 pounds each) -- they were very quiet and lethargic for 24 hours after the application, so she was very concerned about its formulation (and yes she used the weight-appropriate dose). I've had okay results with Advantix, but I really have to use it every 3 weeks, not once/month. And with Advantix, I will find one or two ticks/month on them, but without it, I will find ticks every time we go out, so it does do something! I noticed a number of vets, though, are pushing Vectra and no longer stocking Advantix, so I wonder if something is going on -- are they being subsidized? is there a problem with Advantix we don't know about? Curious.

That's weird...Jasper didn't act any different after we applied it. I wondered about the vets being payed off when my vet told me they stopped carrying Advantix...but then I thought that was illegal or something. I could be wrong though...maybe they're allowed to push whatever they want for a price!
