So lately Ender, my 9 (coming up on 10) month puppy has started howling all of a sudden. It's weird... he'll be sleeping on the rug for a while and then suddenly get up and start a low growl and eventually end in a kind of howling sound. I didn't know Corgis could even howl! It sounds exactly like a wolf would. It's like all of a sudden he hears or smells something that would make him fearful or worried. Sometimes if he's sleeping on the rug at the top of the stairs, he'll wake up, howl, and then go downstairs and look out the window for a while.

It's especially strange because he's not aggressive toward humans or other dogs AT ALL. My breeder says that she had to bottle feed him as a baby so he's very trustful of humans and this has and is the case. Everytime we take him on a walk, he's always eager to meet every person or dog that he comes across. He's actually kinda naiive in that he thinks every dog is friendly and has gotten snapped at by bigger dogs because he's always trying to play with them. He doesn't think he's a Corgi, he thinks he's a GSD or something... He's never barked at another dog or human except to say "I want to play. Why aren't you playing?" I've never even heard him growl before this.

Maybe it's a fear imprint stage or something? He's 9 months though, I thought that happens around 4 months... How should I treat this behavior? I have read that I shouldn't enforce it and ignore it. Is this normal?

Duncan has done the same thing as Amanda's dog. He has been asleep and all of a sudden starts howling in his sleep. It does scare the dickens of you in the middle of the night.
