HI, a couple of months ago, I found a scab on one of my corgi's ear.  At first I though he'd scratched it going through the Indian Hawthone bushes by the fence.  But then I found a similar scab on his other ear.  Off to the vet, who said it was probably a reaction to something (to many possibilites to bother with testing), and gave me some antibotic which cleared thing up.

However, he still has little patches on the tip of his ears where little tuffs of hair fall out. Does anyone else have this problem?  If, so how did you cure it?

Thanks for any help.

Food allergies can cause ear problems.

Do you have gnats? They typically bite the ear tips.

When Snickers was a baby she had mange which caused hair falling out and scabs, and is contagious. So a few months ago when I saw some bunches of hair falling off the tips of her ears I rushed all the dogs in to the vet. He explained that it was a reaction to her rabies shot, and he could tell because it was on the edges of the ear and the same on both ears. Nothing to be done, it would get better on its own. I don't recall that it came back like yours is. I would wait and watch if there is no other indications of illness. You could try a temporary bland diet to see if it is an allergy and/or you could try some vaseline on the ear tips to see if it is an external pest. Both trials would take time, so you may never know whether it would have gone away by itself or if you fixed it.LOL!
