What to do if dog is urinating inside due to medication?

Maggie is currently on antibiotic and one of the side effects is frequent urination. I try my best to take her out every 2-3 hours, but sometimes she just can't hold it for that long. She has had three "accidents" in the house and I'm not sure what to do. I'm afraid she might continue to do this after she gets done with her meds. What should I do if she has another accident? Do you think she'll have to be housebroken again?

Is there any way you could put her in an "in heat" diaper? That could solve some of the mess issues.

Continue to clean up properly, taken her out more frequent, she may have to be housebroken again if you let it slide.

I had this with my dog when he was on steroids. I had to take him out every 2 hrs, but he could hold it at night, from around 10PM to 7AM but, in the morning, I would take him out immediately from the crate ON LEASH. Obviously, you cannot scold the dog. It's no "accident" it's a side effect of the medication, or the illness, whatever the case. If she gets used to going inside, this behavior can continue after the effect of the medication is ended, so confine her to a non carpeted area that can be properly cleaned. Hang in there, this too shall pass!

Not sure how old she is, but when Linus was about a year, he had severe diarrhea and vomiting. We put down a bunch of those training pads all over our kitchen floor (tile). He was so weak that we didn't even really try to make him go outside. Once he was on his meds for 24 hours he was much better, We had the pads down for about 3 days until he was much better. He was able to go out after that and didn't have any residual problem with going in the house. Not sure if that's an option for you.

When Rocky was on prednisone, we took him out almost every hour during the day. We couldn't limit his water during the day because of side effects of the meds but could take it up at night. I took him out as late as possible at night before bed. We confined him in an easily cleaned room and took him right out early in the am. After he was finished with his meds, he was back to his reliable self in the house training department. She's not having accidents, she can't help it. Be patient, give up some sleep, put down some newspapers or pee pads, and this will be over soon.
