When to nueter?

So Kirby will be coming up on 6 months -- I of course hear very different things from my vet (neuter at 6 months) versus my breeder who said I should wait as long as I can. I am set on getting him fixed, so are there any signs such as aggression/marking in the house that I should be aware of. Or are there any dangers of waiting too long?

I would just like to hear how long everyone else has waited and why. From what I have been reading there is no absolute answer but I would like to find out from other Corgi owners their knowledge on when to fix and personal experiences.

As you have stated, there is no absolute answer. Most vets recommend around 6 months because that is right around sexual maturity and if you neuter around then you can hopefuly prevent some annoying boy habits like marking and humping. I neutered Franklin at 5 1/2 months because that is when I started to notice him marking more and he tried to hump one dog at the dog park and we were at the vet the next day lol. Frankin was a cryptorchid and with cryptorchids you want to neuter them asap because the undescended testicle has a very high cancer risk.

If your vet is honest, like the ones where I work, the will tell you jury's still out as far as how long to wait or if you should even neuter at all. The biggest thing about an uneutered male dog is you need to make sure your fences are intact and he is ALWAYS on leash, no dog parks, no daycare, no being outside without a leash because if a female in heat is within a mile he can smell it and he will try to escape and find her. Also to lisence your dog it is exponentially more when they aren't neutered vs when they are. Here in Sacramento its something like $300 for an intact male and $15 for a neutered male. I say nueter at 6 months to avoid any negative behaviors, you have already waited until he has reached sexual maturity and with corgis it can take almost 2 years before they are fully mature so unless you want to wait a full 2 years for him to fully mature, I'd say just neuter now.
