am i being over reacted or should i worry?

when i take him out i am alway there with him until he has done his business but sometimes i am in a hurry and leave him out there for about 20mins. i am worried that in that time someone will steal him even though i am always looking out the window. i mean we live on the air force base but i dont trust so easily. he has his tags on and is microchiped but still, i havnt seen one corgi here DC or SC for that matter and cant help the though crossing my mind that someone will snatch him but like i said if i am in a rush and he has to go i really dont have a choice at times.

there is a gate on our fence but i suppose if someone really wanted him they would just jump the fence. i see people just leaving there dogs out for hours but i dont feel so sure. my husband thinks i am very reacting but idk:(

Is that the front or the back. Considering there is a fence that a person can clearly see what is in the backyard I understand the concern. If you are keeping an eye on him it will probably be okay.
it is the back yard. i wouldnt be so concerned if there wasnt a gate on there and the rule on base with the fences is we cant put a lock on it as it could damage the property.i think its dumb but theres nothing i can do:(
Hi Rebecca, trust your instinct. Microchipping is a good start, however, it only works when your data is up to date and someone actually bring him in and scan him. Always be nice and considerate to your neighbours.

Your fear actually happened to one of our members, her corgi was dognapped from her front yard 4 years ago :( Your concern is very real.
o no:( thats so sad! i couldn't imagine what she went through! i always trust my instinct and never let my guard down, u never know what could happen

i am always very nice to my neighbors but they mostly keep to them selfs. everyone of them has bigger dogs. the info on the microchip is up to date and has 4phone numbers to contact but in this big city i bet it would be hard to find him.

someone said as a back up or make them think twice is to put NEEDS MEDS on the tag as well but im not sure because that would take up a line on the tag
You can also install a cheap Infrared Wireless sensor that alerts you when someone is in the backyard or just passing by. Here's a solar powered version.
awesome! thank you sam:) i was just looking for something just like that. so now i can be rest assured he will be ok for a short time
A while back here in Buffalo, people were stealing small dogs from yards to use them as 'bait' for their 'fighting' dogs. While I don't live in the city, the thought of this happening to my guys made me crazy. I don't trust people either, so I understand how you feel!
thank you, my husband thinks i am over reacting to this but i will definitely tell him that. that thought really scared me, i couldn't imagine that happening to teddy
One thing you could try when you have to put him out alone is using a leash line that only goes out 10 feet or so into your yard. Use something that only reaches about halfway across the yard instead of all the way to your fence. Then any thief would actually have to come into your yard and unhook him from the leash to steal him instead of just having to open the gate.
that is a pretty good idea:) thank you
Rebecca, I was worried about the same thing when Twinkie was a pup. I was sure she was irresistible. I think your situation looks pretty secure but if people use the area behind the fence to cut through, I would keep sharp too.
i have noticed some teenage boys that walk through there all the time. sometimes they even play foot ball and if it goes into someones yard they go right in there back fence to get it. i guess it isnt that big of a deal but it wouldnt hurt to ask before going into the yeard, you know what i mean?

by the way, Twinkie is such a cutie! i love your profile pic:)
