Teggie has all of the toys mentioned. When she went through the teething, which she is just now coming out of, she loved her wooden toys best. We don't give her rawhide, because little pieces can go through their intestines undigested, as I understand it. Teg's favorite toy is a rope that was strung on a chew toy. She liberated the rope and swings it around and around the room, then frays and chews it to her heart's delight. I only allow kong-style toys in her kennel at night, or when we are not around, due to the choking hazard.

I have found that cow hooves keep Penny occupied for hours. My daughter gave me one when we got her a month ago and she still hasn't gotten all the way through it. The down side...they SMELL when they've been chewing on them for a long time and get damp...but boy does it keep her busy! I will have to look for the bully sticks.

I have a pair a sheep skin slippers that my new pup Shasta does not think she can do without. In the middle of the night she is pulling out the insole and chewing on it, if I forget to put them up. Can no longer leave them on the floor for me just to slip in. I want to find some kind of toy that is made of sheep skin, I think this would just make her day.

Barkley loves his little mini soccer ball and his dragon. One thing that seems to occupy him the most seems to be this plastic "chicken flavored" bone. He also can chew on his rope forever, but it's pretty easy to occupy him. He also really likes his squeaky tennis ball. We have an area that we keeped him penned in while we're at work, right in front of the front door because it's all linoleum. One of the funniest things he does when we're at home and open up the pen is that one by one he will bring all of his toys into the living room and pile them up.

Also, when we go visit my parents their cats have this toy where the ball goes around a track and there is a scratch pad in the middle. Barkley absolutely LOVES that toy. He'll make the ball go around the track, then he'll take the ball out and play with it. The most amazing thing though is that he'll put the ball back in and make it go around the track some more. This toy amuses him for hours, it's pretty awesome.

I have an update! Tank is now over 5 months old and we have finally found a chew toy that will occupy him for HOURS: Dingo bones! They do make a mess on the floor (or couch in some cases) but sometimes it's worth it so that we can get a few things done!! Thanks all for the ideas - keep them coming!

Stella loves Dingos, too. I used to give her the little ones that were knotted at both ends, but she "outgrew" them--at 3 months! She would eat them too fast and I thought she might choke on the little knots at the end. Now I get her the rolls. She also likes the chicken flavored sticks. I don't have to worry since they break apart easily. The downside is that she ends up chomping them in less than a minute. Did you try the bully sticks? Stella loves them, too.

Yeah, we tried the bully sticks - they work well, but are really smelly! Also, Tank has found a way to swallow them when they're not chewed up yet (don't know what happened to his gag reflex, but it doesn't seem to work!!)

Mischa has lots of toys, but her favorite seems to be her stuffed Green Bone rope toy. She loves to chew on it and play tug-o-war, and the squeeker in it helps distract her if she's chewing on something she shouldn't.

Just thought I'd add on, even though this is an older discussion:

My Reaghan has a plethora of toys, ranging from rubber and stuffed squeeky toys, tennis balls, kong balls, stuffed animals, the V.I.P. puppy packs, even one of those long weiner dog toys that was on that one petsmart commercial. Lol. Nyla-bone makes puppy bones that are digestible that have vitamins and minerals that puppies need. They can start having those at 3 months. Ray loved those, and also her rawhide bones and pig ears. Though if they swallow big chunks of those it can block up the insides. :( One of rays favorite toys is a ball with a tail, she'll grab the tail and throw it across the room and chase after it. She's always playing fetch with herself.

Over saturation on toys is a good way to keep a pup occupied also. The more toys the less likely for the pup to get bored. Even though it does increase the clutter around the house. :( Try praising your pup whenever it plays with one of it's toys, that way it learns that the toy is a good thing to play with and it should continue.

Also, with the kong balls can be filled with peanut butter, the pet stores have a peanut butter type filler to put in them that is more suitable for digestive health then real peanut butter. It is a great reward system for a pup, they get to play and have a snack. Rope toys are good for flossing teeth. ;)

Avoid any stuffed animal that is only half stuffed with the cotton and the rest with the beans. The beans are bad for a dogs digestive health and are also very messy.
