We are not planning to breed Gracie. Our vet wants to wait as long as we can before spaying her. With my previous dog, they wanted her to go through one heat cycle. I remember having to put pants with a pad on Teddie! I don't think they are planning to do that with Gracie. I remember Teddie getting very sweet and clingy when she went into heat. Gracie has been a little like that lately. She is only 4 months though so it is probably too soon. Every vet has different thoughts on this. When did you get your pups spayed?

There is no real reason that I am aware of to let your dog go through a heat cycle before spaying. If anyone else knows of one let me know. I think typically spay and neuter can be done around 6 months old. I did Leo at 24 weeks and Randy has his appointment for the same age. My vet did not think I should have Leo neutered at all...cause he was so pretty...silly notion. That man is not at our clinic anymore. If you are not planning to breed I don't see a reason to let them know what they are missing.
